Metanoia
(noun)

The journey of changing one's mind, heart, self or way of life

Ashton sat at his slick brown desk, gripping his hair with both his hands, looking down angrily at the scene of the crime.Black paint had accidentally fallen on his nearly finish artwork which he spent days working on.He let out a frustrated sigh before tossing the canvas in the bin.

"No sense on trying to fix that mess,"he muttered to himself.

Instead of remaking the piece,he shuffled his way down stairs,in search of something to eat.The house was empty as usual. His parents were away on a business trip and Rose, the maid, was on vacation. He ramaged through the many drawers and cupboards of the kitchen before he settled on a box of sugar cookies.

Ashton was alone most of time, his parents were barely around and he had a grand total of one friend. He had no siblings, not anymore that is.He had everything really, his parents were well off and gave him everything and anything they thought he'd like to make up for their lack of presence in his life. But in reality,no matter how big the house was or how many materialistic things he had would never make up for the void that he felt in life.

He was sad most days, and somehow that was okay.He found being alone to be comforting but being lonely was heartaching.

Art was his only source of comfort. He could draw a world,a imaginary world, where life was simpler.Where he'd have someone to talk to.Where he could share a laugh or two with his parents.Somewhere he felt like he belong.

Shoving the last cookie in his mouth,he decided that he was rather thirsty, but instead of drinking what he had at home,he headed straight for the small cafe down town.

He liked going there for whatever reason it maybe.Maybe it was the warm cosey feeling he felt when he was there.Or maybe their coffee was just great.Or maybe he secretly enjoyed seeing the pretty brunette working there.

Upon entering the cafe,he was greeted with the soft sound of Christmas carols. The cafe was beautifully decorated with Christmas ornaments. The fireplace was lit and above it hung red and green stockings. The tables were covered with a white table cloth with snowflakes and a mini Christmas was placed in the center of each table. At the very corner of the cafe stood a Christmas tree which was adore with unique ornaments. It was beautiful to say the least.

Approaching the casher,he was greeted with a familiar brunette.Kristin, who failed to notice him in front her,was struggling to fix the Santa hat on her head.

"Need some help there?"Ashton spoke, holding back his laughter.

Jumping at the sound of his voice,Kristin quickly composed herself, flashing him a nervous smile before she spoke.

"Um no my head is too big.Probably full of air,"she rambled.

Ashton couldn't help but let out a low chuckle. This girl was something else.

"I very much doubt.I'll have my usual."

"Why don't you try our pumpkin spice eggnog?I mean if you want since it's Christmas and all that festive stuff,"she blurted out.

"Not a fan of Christmas,"Ashton shrugged.

"Oh well would you like a Christmas sugar cookie then? It's on me,"she smile shyly.

Ashton's heart skipped a beat. Her smile was breathtaking.

He agreed, watching as she placed not one but two cookies inside a paper brown bag.

"I hope you like them.I made them,"she said, handing him his items.

"I'm sure I'll like them,"he smiled at her, paying for his drink.

He turned on his heel and began walking towards the door with a smile on his face.Who knew free cookies could bring him happiness?
