Kismet
noun[kiz-mit,-met,kis-]Fate,Destiny.
The cold wind slapped Kristen face as she opened the door to the run down cafe.Due to being too preoccupied with rereading 'Pride and Prejudice' the night before, the brown haired girl forgot all about the need for sleep, which she paid the price for this morning as she slept through her alarm which only held the innocent job of reminding her of her responsibilities. She cursed under her breath and quickly made her way behind the counter, preparing herself for her co-worker,Steve,long lecture to her about how lucky she was to have this job and that she must do her best to show up on time. She rolled her eyes just thinking about it.Obviously, she planned to ignored him as she had gotten that speech more times than she'd like. She could've even quoted parts of the lecture. Struggling with tying a knot with her apron string, she heard foot steps approaching from behind her.
"Here we go again,"she muttered to herself before plastering a fake smile on her face and turning around. Her brown eyes met with a pair of green ones.Steve stood only a few centimeters away from her with crossed arms and a death glare that looked more like he was squinting his eyes to see her properly. He wasn't quite intimidating to say the least,he looked more like a wimp to be honest. If Kristin were to reach out and push him,Steve would've probably fell to the floor shattering a few bones due to how skinny he was.
"You are late,"Steve said, squinting his eyes more.
"You are observant,"Kristin muttered.
"I've told you more than once that if you were late again I'd have to demote you."
"Yes,and here I am,two promotions later."
Kristin silently laughed, recalling the two times she got promoted.Usually she didn't care about those kinds of things, but Steve's expression made it memorable to say the least.Their boss was a old woman in her mid 70s who was particularly fond of Kristin and treated her like her own child.Kristin would sometimes feel bad for Steve who didn't get much affection from their boss like she did but it usually never lasted long as he'd always leave her to clean up after the shop closes.
"I'm serious. You need to stop reading your dumb books in the middle of the night. You learn nothing from those fictional stories anyways,"Steve snapped.
"Morosis."
"Gaziantep. But seriously Kristin,be early next time or I'll tell boss lady on you,"
Rolling her eyes,Kristin fidgeted with the buttons on the cash register until she heard Steve walk away from behind her.She heard the chime of the cafe door bell but didn't look up from what she was doing.
"I'll have a double mint chip cappuccino."
Snapping out of her thoughts, she looked up to see a pair a dark tired brown eyes. The boy in front of her was gorgeous to say the least. His jawline was defined and he had high cheek bones. His pink, full lips were turned down into a frown and his perfectly shaped eyebrows were pinched together as if he was in deep thought. His brown hair was messy,as if he just woke up.
Kristen's eye slightly widen as she looked at the boy in front of her.She suddenly felt self conscience about herself. Her brown hair was in a messy bun and the bags under her eyes were the most visible thing on her face. Her lips were dry and slightly cracked and she had slight acne as she hasn't gotten time to do her skin care routine in a while.Overall,Kristen looked like a Muppet in front of the god like boy.
"If you're done staring at me,I'd like my order,"his words came out harsh and bitter.
Taken back by how harsh his tone was,Kristen felt her face grew warm and she mentally scowled herself for bluntly staring at the boy.
"I-I wasn't staring at you,"she stammered.
The God like boy narrowed his gorgeous brown eyes at her.
Kristin melted at this sight.
"You have a little bit of drool at the corner of your lips. You should really wipe that,"he said, rolling his eyes.
Kristin lips slightly parted as she was shocked at how someone so gorgeous could be so rude. Her cheeks grew warmer and it took everything it had in her to stop herself from walking out the cafe and move to a new city far away from here. She quickly composed herself and directed the topic to something new in hopes that she'll somehow save herself from this embarrassment.
"So'll-"
"Soul?"
"So'll,like-"
"Sold?"
"It's-"
"Seagull?"
"SO WILL YOU HAVE THE DOUBLE MINT CHIP CAPPUCCINO?"
"I'll"
Kristin blew out a breath. As if she couldn't be more embarrassed. She quickly turned around to make his drink, being careful not to burn herself in the process. She successfully made his drink, without burning herself and mentally applauded herself for this accomplishment.
"That will be $2.50,"she said.
"Don't you mean 'that'll be',"he lightly laughed at his own joke, handing her the money.
Kristin felt her heart flutter a little bit upon hearing him laugh. It sounded like music to her ears.
"You have shitty taste in music,"she muttered to herself.
"Haha. You're so funny,"she drawled out, trying not to show how affected she was by his previous actions.
"Hilarious actually,"he muttered, taking the drink in his hands.
With a final nod towards Kristin,he turned on his heels and walked towards the door of the cafe.Kristin watched as he ducked his head and walked out of the cafe. She let out a breath she didn't know she was holding in.
"What the fuck was that Kristin? You made yourself look like a fool,"she angrily whispered.
