"Wake up or your going to be late!" Stephanie's alarm clock screamed. Ever since she set it to that annoying voice she's regretted it, but it never fails to get her ass out of bed. She reluctantly swung her left arm over her and gave her alarm clock a swift wack. She sat up and blew her hair out of her face about to get ready to do her morning routine. She was already packed and ready to head to the airport when she got a call.
"Hey Babes, are you coming over today?"
"Sorry Justin, I'm heading out of state remember? My family reunion?" Stephanie said with hope that he might somehow give her a legitimate excuse not to go.
"Awe man that's right. Darn. I'm gonna miss you. When will you be back in Shits Ville?" A nickname Justin gave the small town in North Carolina that they lived. Boiler wasn't all that bad in Stephanie's mind. There were a lot of small town crimes happening recently such as stealing, vandalism, and home evasions. But nothing that worried her as much as being at home does. Beside in Boiler there is not too many people. Nice shops. No body that knows her. No one from her family. No mother. She realized she had paused for a while and assumed Justin would get worried soon.
"I'm not so sure..." she began to think about all the bad things that could cause her to have to stay a while.
"My family is....complicated."
"Oh no. Can't wait to meet them." Justin giggled. But to Stephanie that was never an option. He can never meet them my mother will scare him away. She thought and she blinked away the fear realizing that she was running late.
"Shit! Babe I got to go. My flight leaves in thirty minutes and it's a twenty minute drive to the airport."
"Okay hunny, call me when you land so I know you made it safe. I love you." He blew a kiss into the phone and she did the same then hung up. A small part of her hoped she would miss her flight. But when her mother had told her about this reunion she had told Stephanie that if she didn't come she would fly to Boiler and spend the week with her. She didn't want that. Not when everything in Boiler was going so well. She didn't want her crazy mother ruining everything like she always does. So she was forced to spend the week in Concord. She hoped her younger brother, Gabe would be there since he always knew how to deal with their mother.
"Miss? Ticket please?" The airport worker had been trying to get Stephanie's attention for a while and she hadn't noticed. She was so distracted by the thought of going home.
"Oh! I'm so sorry! I'm a terrible day dreamer!" Stephanie said trying to make the situation less awkward. When she got on the plane she took her seat and popped a few pills to help her sleep. She didn't want the thought of her mother keeping her up the whole plane ride. She put her headphones on and slowly drifted to sleep thinking about the up coming events of tomorrow's union.
