Stephanie woke up about thirty minutes before her plane landed. The anxiety started to creep in. She tried to remember the last conversation she had with her mother.

"Stephanie what are you doing?" Her brother asked as she frantically started to grab her stuff.
"Packing Gabe! After what just happened I'm getting the hell out of this crazy house and away from our insane mother!" Stephanie said wanting to cry but the fear was taking over her. Her mother came into the room covered in blood.
"Stephanie don't be ridiculous I did what I had to do."
"I hate you! Your crazy! You need help!" Stephanie screamed and wailed and her mother tried to grab her hand but she pulled away. She managed to slow her breathing and said "I'm leaving."
"Steph... where are you going to go? You just turned eighteen, and I know this looks bad. But we were in danger and..." Gabe tried to make sense of the situation but Stephanie refused to listen.
"Your sick. You both are! Blinded by the love this family has for each other. Well I'm sick of it...." She got the courage to look her mother dead in the eyes. "I'm sick of listening to your so called spells in some made up language. And your disgusting herb tea that is supposed to protect us from demons. Not the mention the animal bones you leave by the door to keep the vampires out...." Stephanie then turned to her brother "Guess what... THERE ARE NO DEMONS!" She started to yell "THIS IS NO MAGIC! AND THERES DEFINITELY NO VAMPIRES!"
"Steph..." Gabe swallowed as their father walked in.
"Let her go." He said with absolutely no emotion or expression.
"But Dad she's just a kid." Gabe made eye contact with his father and Stephanie started to get more angry.
"If she wants to leave let her. What she saw tonight scared her. She's in shock. If she believes that she can make a life for herself then we must have faith that she will. We will do what we can to protect her from afar."
Stephanie zipped her suit case and walked past her mother with her head down. She turned to look at her brother.
"I'll keep in touch." Then she walked up to her Dad and said "Thank you." And he said nothing. She left and never looked back.

Although she did keep her promise. She wrote letters to her brother at first. Then they kept in contact through phone and talked less and less. As much as she missed him she never regretted leaving that house. She doesn't quite remember what happened that night before the argument. Maybe her dad was right. Maybe the shock blocked her from remembering. But was it shock from seeing her mother do something insane or from witnessing something she never wanted to believe?
"We've landed everybody please leave out the first exit in an orderly fashion."
This was it. Stephanie was finally home.
