"And how do you feel about that...?" Yanan said, sitting in his swivel chair and looking deep in thought at Yuto.
"I just told you, I don't. I don't really feel." Yuto said, lying down across the couch in Yanan's office. "Like at all."
Ten minutes earlier, Yuto had been bringing Yanan a cup of coffee to his office, only to accidentally trip and spill it across his hand. Yanan watched in fascination as Yuto reacted as if nothing happened, as if the scalding hot liquid wasn't burning his flesh. After getting his hand dosed in cold water and wrapped in bandages, Yanan began peppering him with questions.
"But how..." Yanan was looking at Yuto as if he was the most complicated enigma in the world.
Yuto made a :/ face.
"I just have a high tolerance for pain," Yuto explained.
"Have you ever felt anything?" Yanan asked, exasperated.
Yuto thought back to the times when he had been "in pain." He had always stayed up late throughout school working, people commenting on the dark circles under his eyes, but he never realized his body was suffering until one day freshman year he just suddenly collapsed. He could never notice if he was injured or bleeding until someone pointed it out. The last time being when Yanan had told him his eye was. When Hyunggu had touched him...
"I don't know," Yuto answered. "I don't think so?"
"That must be your power then," Yanan concluded.
"My what- Wait, do you-"
There was a knock at the door. "Uh, is Yuto there?" they heard a voice call from the hall.
Yuto's eyes went wide. "That's Hyunggu. I told him I might be here. We're supposed to have lunch together."
"Cute," Yanan said, but he raised an eyebrow, still suspicious about Hyunggu no matter how many times Yuto insisted he was harmless. "Therapy session over, I guess."
Yuto walked to the door, opening it and seeing Hyunggu smiling brightly up at him as he stepped out into the hall. He reached out to hold Yuto's hand, but stopped when he noticed his bandages. "What happened?" Hyunggu asked, shocked.
"Oh, I just spilled coffee on myself."
Hyunggu pouted, "Well... I have a surprise waiting for you!" He shouted, hoping that it would make Yuto feel better, immediately taking his uninjured hand to lead him down the hall to the elevator. They stepped inside, Hyunggu still not letting go of his hand. Yuto's heart beat faster.
I'm nervous? Yuto thought. He shook his head. It's the surprise. That's why... But I've never felt this way before...
The doors opened to the first floor, Cube cafe. They found a table that Yuto sat at as Hyunggu told him to close his eyes and wait for him to come back.
"Ok, open them!" He heard Hyunggu call. Yuto opened his eyes. Hyunggu had bought a chocolate cake for him, except it was topped crazily with bright purple frosting and rainbow sprinkles scattered all around it. "They let me decorate it myself!" Hyunggu explained. "You seemed stressed from your mentorship so I thought this would be a nice break and- oh my god, don't cry!" Hyunggu laughed.
Yuto sniffed. "I'm just really touched." It's a piece of cake. "Thank you." Why am I getting so emotional ? Hyunggu smiled. When do I ever get this emotional? I never get this...
Yuto wiped his tears with his right hand, staring down at his bandages. He could feel the sharp stinging and soreness of his knuckles underneath instead of the usual low, numb pain.
