I followed Serana to the dungeons and spotted Xanthe lounging on her bed (if you could call it that) like it was a plush loveseat.
"Gods, Xanthe, how are you?" I gasped, curling my fingers around the iron bars of her cell.
She slowly tilted her head to look at me and smiled, "Fine. I've been in worse places."
"...I'm so sorry that this happened... We'll find a way to convict Silas." I stated, more so telling myself that than her.
"Eh..." She muttered, getting to her feet and sidling up against the cell door, "I'll try my best but it will be rather hard stuck down... Here."
"About that, I managed to get you out of the dungeons... As long as you have a guard with you at all times." I confessed and that's when Serana lifted her hand.
"That will be me." She declared, lowering her hand and Xanthe nodded, tapping her chin thoughtfully.
"Well, that's better than Sir Wraith." Xanthe chuckled, pressing the corner of her head against an iron bar, "Any interesting news that has happened in the past... Twenty minutes that I've been down here?"
"Not quite..." I sighed and Xanthe nodded.
"Gods, this scenery reminds me of when I was with Gideon." Xanthe grumbled, 'admiring' the flagstone walls.
"Was Gideon your husband?" I asked and Xanthe stared me down with her black eyes.
"So you know about him?" She muttered.
"Yeah... Silas may have told me..." I sighed, "I'm sorry, Xanthe... That's so unfortunate..."
The Mistress of Whispers cocked a brow and scoffed, "unfortunate? The man was a bastard, why do you think I killed him?"
I don't think I heard that correctly.
"Killed?" I coughed and Xanthe narrowed her eyes at me.
"I thought you knew?" She hissed and I shrugged.
"Silas told me he passed away, not that you murdered him!" I gasped and she rolled her eyes.
"You're acting like it's a big deal, like you two haven't killed anyone before!" Xanthe grumbled and my eyes widened.
"I haven't! Have you?!" I gasped, turning my attention to Serana who shrugged coolly.
"I'm literally an executioner. My job is to kill people." She sighed.
"You're the Guardian of Chains..." I mumbled.
That's not an executioner role, right?
"Yes, and as Guardian of Chains, I execute the criminals on death row " Serana growled and I let out a shaky sigh.
"So... This is news to me..." I coughed and Xanthe nodded.
"Evidently." She murmured, "I'm sorry you had to find out that way..."
"It wasn't ideal but... Yeah... Is that what The Poet was speaking about?" I wondered and she nodded.
"Did you ever spend a night with The Poet, Mistress?" Serana grinned with a cocked brow and Xanthe glared at her.
"It was a mistake..." She grunted, closing her eyes as if that would protect her from the remarks Serana was about to make.
She chuckled but didn't say anything else.
"She made me feel loved! Is that so bad?" Xanthe groaned and I shook my head.
"Not at all--" I started but Serana cut me off.
