Soulmate are rare. Certain people are chosen to have a soulmate. Not everyone gets one. And this leads to lots of crimes.
Soulmates have a tattoo of your soulmates initials and birthdate on their left wrist.
If you have more than one soulmate, you have multiple initials going along your arm. If you have ten or more soulmates your initials go in a spiral down your wrist.
If your soulmate is found your wrist will tingle and glow their favorite color. The closer you get the more it tingles and brighter it glows.
When you are in the womb of your mothers belly, your soulmate Marks appear. But they fully developed when you are out of the womb. Only if you'd soulmate is already alive will they appear. If your a toddler and your soulmark appears it means your soulmate has just been born. It hurts for a while but then the pain goes away.
You can't reject your soulmate(s). But you can ignore it. It dose hurt your wrist.
When you touch your soulmark, the glow and burn stop and your soulmark fades to the other person's favorite color.

Lila meets Timmy for the first time. Her soulmark turns color, so instead of it being blue (her favorite color) it glows a green. When Lila touches her mark on Timmy, it turns green (his favorite color). Then Timmy touches his mark in her and his mark on her goes blue.
Hopefully that makes since.
