Morning came earlier than expected. I went downstairs and saw my family.
"Good morning sweetie"
well, someone's happy
"Morning mom,dad,sis"
"How are you sweetie?"
Mom asked.
I wanted to talk about it. Damn it. I wanted to scream. I wanted to shout about it. But all I could do was whisper
"I'm fine"
Mom didn't ask anything else and I'm glad she didn't. I'd only cause my problems for myself.
"Tonight, we will be having dinner at the Knight's. You will get dressed at six and wait for us downstairs. Understood?"
"Yes sir"
Everyone continued to eat in silence. Then, all of a sudden father started coughing,
"Are you okay honey?" Mom asked worriedly as she rushed to father's side
"I-I- think*cough* I'm*cough*cho-king" he replied between coughs
Christy and mother began panicking as his breathing laboured
"Oh my god, he's choking, he's choking"
Not fast enough
As everyone panicked, I sat and ate my breakfast as if nothing out of the ordinary was happening. Moments later, everything settled and dad began breathing normally,
"Why didn't you help?" He asked
I continued eating my food, and when he didn't get a reply, he asked again, well, more like screamed
"Why didn't you help me?!"
I slowly looked up from my plate and said,
"There's no need to shout. I ignored you just fine the first time"
"You... Don't you dare sass me!"
"If you don't want sass, then don't ask stupid questions"
Where did all this confidence come from?
He was furious while mother had a look of disbelief on her face,
"Baby, why didn't you help your father?" She asked softly. But I wasn't haven't it.
"O, I'm sorry. I didn't know I was a fucking doctor"
OMG I cursed. I never cursed!!!
That did it for my father as he got up and came to stand directly in front of me
"You need to figure out where your loyalty lies. I don't know what's gotten into you, but you better get an attitude adjustment before I put some sense into you" he sneered.
Ugh. Is that garlic?
Grossss
I got up, took up my plate and walked towards the kitchen but not before saying,
"The only persons I owe my loyalty are the ones who never made me question theirs and you, dear, sweet family, lost mine the moment you decided my future for me. Oh, and if you're looking for loyalty, get a f**king dog!"
And with that I left the kitchen
