Whoosh!
Lan Qinghui ducked as Lan Jingyi's sword swung over her. Without a moment's hesitation, she turned and swung her own blade to Jingyi's side as he quickly parried her strike.
"Alright! That's enough for now, let's take a break. Good job, you two. " Lan Sizhui was taking a break after training with Jin Ling and was watching as Lan Qinghui and Lan Jingyi were training sword techniques. The four had agreed to stagger their training and break timings so that while two of them trained, the other two could observe them and give constructive feedback. Lan Qinghui and Lan Jingyi ceased fighting and sheathed their swords. They bowed at each other solemnly before grinning at each other again and bounded over to the benches where Lan Sizhui and Jin Ling were sitting.
Lan Sizhui handed Lan Qinghui a bamboo container filled with water and she took it gladly, gulping down the water greedily.
"Sizhui, any comments?" Lan Qinghui grinned as she wiped the sweat off her forehead with her sleeve.
"Qinghui, I think your reflexes have improved and your reaction timing is faster. Jingyi, you're good as usual, but I think you've hit a plateau......At this rate, Qinghui is going to surpass you in sword technique!" Lan Sizhui commented, ending off with a jibe at Lan Jingyi as he gave him a mischievous look.
"Hey! Who says I've hit a plateau? I'm just improving so fast you can't see it," Lan Jingyi retorted, his arms crossed around his chest in mock anger.
"Oh yeah? Wanna try fighting with me instead?" Jin Ling interjected and Lan Jingyi immediately replied, "You're on!" and the two ran off again, determined to show who had the better skill.
Lan Qinghui and Lan Sizhui both shook their heads and laughed. Lan Jingyi had just finished training, but he was still so full of energy!
Four days had passed since the Gusu Lan sect disciples arrived at Lotus Pier and they had been diligently honing their skills in preparation for the cultivation competition. The Yunmeng Jiang sect training ground were filled with disciples from hundreds of sects in different coloured robes. It was an extremely lively and energetic scene as the youths practiced hard and the training grounds was filled with the sounds of shouting, metal clashing and arrows whistling by. Jin Ling had joined Lan Qinghui, Lan Sizhui and Lan Jingyi for their training as he was very familiar with the Gusu Lan sect's sword technique and was able to parry with them with his Lanling Jin sect and Yunmeng Jiang sect techniques. In exchange, the Gusu Lan sect disciples were also able to learn the Lanling Jin sect and Yunmeng Jiang sect techniques from Jin Ling. Ouyang Zizhen from the Baling Ouyang sect often came by with his fellow sect disciples to cross swords, but as far as interacting with other sect disciples, it seemed that each sect's disciples wanted to keep their techniques to themselves, afraid to reveal their moves before the competition. Nonetheless, it did not stop them from interacting outside of training and it became a common sight for disciples donning different coloured robes walking side by side, discussing something or laughing together. It was even more obvious at meal times, when the banquet hall was a complete mix of colours unlike the orderly separation on the first day. The Gong Ling festival was indeed rather successful in ensuring the peace of the hundreds of cultivation sects, starting from the younger generation.
