There are moments in life when the heart seizes itself with bitter sadness. The outcome was not a surprise. The events leading to that outcome leaves your throat constricting, heart heavy with sadness you never knew even existed.
Is life fair? No. But can it be that cruel to let someone re-live same misery again and again?
Jiseok entered to find Jungkook with tear strained face. The shock of events he had read in the letter was evident.
"Was he a bad person?" Trembling voice left Jungkook's mouth. "Was he evil enough to have such fate?" The lump in Jungkook's throat was making it impossible to talk. But the sadness has seeped inside deepest of his being.
This was too much.
This was the story no one wants to know.
To know something so dreadful happened and all you could do is to live with it. The truth stays in your mind, the numbness merges with every heartbeat. The smile turns hollow.
He turned to point at the painting.
"Tell me he was evil".
His eyes lingered upon every feature of Park Jimin. His eyes, his smile, the humble yet strong aura. How his hair looked air sweeped. The pride he had, clear in his posture.
Park Jimin was sunrises and sunsets.
Blue moonlights and shooting stars,
Warm sky and cotton clouds.
Still he became an epitome of tragedy no one deserves. Even the cruelest of being.
"Jungkook-shii. You know the answer. You want to give yourself a reason to forget this. Don't you?".
"Never knew I am bargaining for something more than I intended for."
"No one did" Jiseok smiled. "But its not about bad people receiving bad fate, or good people ending up with a happy after. Life gives us stories for its own right reasons. If you are given this story to be aware of, there must be a reason."
"To live with knowledge that a soul is shredded to last of its piece in a place far away, I rather would have stayed ignorant".
The long stretch of silence followed two men with nothing but distant sound of rain.
"Why I suddenly feel sad around this hour?"
Jiseok turned to fully look at Jungkook with confused expressions.
"At this time, even before knowing what happened here. I suddenly feel my heart shrinking with sadness. As if I have lost a part of me?"
"This is the only time his soul can mourn" Jiseok answered. "At this hour the tormentor lies frail, the only time when he cannot stop life to follow its own course. Nothing in this world is strong enough to face its limitations".
But Jungkook's mind was inhabited with his thoughts only.
Of Park Jimin's.
How he was harrassed, later tortured and mortified before succumbing to his death caused by a lustful demon. And even after his death, getting raped every night by same vengeful spirit. No one. No one deserved this.
Park Jimin deserved better.
"Is there anything that can be done? Exorcism? Any ritual? Any offering? Anything to stop this madness?" Jungkook was blabbering all solutions while Jiseok looked intently.
"His father died after his heart stopped listening to his own son's helplessness. You think his mother did not tried any of this? She died in a snowstorm trying to reach a shrine in east of hosui-sen. You really think no one fought?"
A sob escaped Jungkook's lips. This whole ordeal was anyway too much for any sane mind.
"Then why he is still here?" He asked with head hung low.
"They loved him. They wanted him to be in peace but somehow they were scared too. They accepted their limitation as their weakness."
"What Jimin needed was a selfless miracle. Not love. And this is where every effort fell apart".
"What is this letter doing with you?"
Jiseok was taken aback by sudden demand of answer. This is not the time. This is not how the reality shall unfold.
If Jungkook had a bit more of a clear head than now, he would have sworn he saw Jiseok smile.
"Answers are manifested upon those who seek truth. You are not there yet".
Jiseok left Jungkook with the promise of bringing back his stuff from inside mansion. His desire to talk with his hyungs was burning. His only hope to sustain that this is not real. Just a nightmare which will pass soon.
But then, not a second passed when he was not thinking about Jimin. Every once in a while he would catch himself staring at the portrait of ill-fated boy. His fingers still tracing the fading words on letter he found. Jimin hand touched this very same paper. His spine tingled with this new found connection. The twitch on his lips turned into a solemn smile.
"If only your life was as cherish worthy as you were jimin-ssi".
What Jungkook failed to notice was the dark enveloping confines of mansion again.
