"Why did you run off?" Lime demanded when they got home. "Did someone put their hand up your dress?"
"No!" Ara said, appalled. "I just...just realised I'd left a tap running."
"You never leave a tap running," Alice said. She paused for a moment, before hugging her friend.
The phone began ringing.
"Who's gonna answer it?" Alice asked, wearily.
Lime pressed it to her ear. "Nara and Yooyoung are inviting us for a movie night," she hissed.
"I'm in."
"Yeah, sure, whatever," Ara said vaguelly. Her thoughts were already back on the girl in the shop. Did she like this girl? She was attracted to her, no doubt, but obviously she couldn't fancy her, right?
Right?
Whatever, she would never have to go to that particular corner shop again and a night watching very straight, romantic comedies would let her forget all about the girl.
Even if she was the prettiest thing Ara had ever seen.
Lime held the phone to her knee. "Their new roommate is going to be there, you're not going to be unsociable, are you, Ara?"
"No, I'll be fine," Ara said. "I want to see Nara again."
~~~
Alice drove them there. Usually Ara would clutch the edge of her seat and give frantic instructions, but now she stared out of the window.
She could only see the girl's face.
It was turning into an obsession.
Those huge eyes...they were haunting her.
And yet? They made her feel good. Too good. Creepily.
Alice stalled the car. "Oops!" she called to Lime, who was in the back seat.
"We're almost there," Lime said, shaking Ara's shoulder.
Nara and Yooyoung hugged them as they got out of the car. "Yoonjo's not here yet, but she said to start without her," Nara said.
Yooyoung let Lime pick her up and spin her around, squealing.
"It's good to have the gang back together," Nara commented to Alice. "What's, um, wrong with Ara?"
"She probably saw a spider and freaked," Alice laughed.
Nara had made popcorn, although the amount left wasn't anything like when she'd taken it out of the pan. "Should I make some more?" she asked.
"Definitely," Lime said, lying down on one of the sofas.
"Feet off!" Yooyoung said, pretending to smack her.
They argued amiably for a while about what to watch first, before Yooyoung stuck her hand in the video player and started crying.
"This one," Ara said quickly, while Nara put a plaster on the youngest girl's hand.
Ara laid her head on Alice's shoulder as they watched. The film wasn't very interesting, but Ara followed the male lead around with her eyes all the time. She wasn't attracted to him, but she was trying to be.
Her eyes flicked to the female on the screen. Would I be attracted to her? she thought.
Alice pulled more of the blanket they had over their laps onto herself and Ara automatically tugged it back.
There was the sound of a key in the door and a girl walked into the room, carrying a thick coat.
"Everyone, meet Yoonjo."
