You finally ask Yancy where you should go. After all, you couldn't just drive down the highway forever. Yancy sighs, "Mayhaps we should stop there?" He points to a small gas station a few yards away. It's sign is covered with rust and vines and the white letters that fight against the weathering of the rusty sign read "Jakes Pit Stop". Upon further inspection, the vines and rust that cover the poor gas station make it appear deserted. However, a small lamp inside the station proves you wrong. Still, the moody exterior leaves you skeptical. You offer to just drive to your house. Yancy huffs, "Wees can't go to yous house... they could follow yous car... I know they seem dumb but.. they isn't. Yous got out for something small, and you got out withous hurting anyone. I- I fought my way out.. I- I promise I'll explain this all to yous later." You simply sigh and pull into the moody exterior.
Yancy brisky hops out of your car, runs over to the drivers side, and opens the door for you. You consider a thanks, but he did just speed into your car less than an hour ago with a police pursuit behind him, so you muster a quick "mhm" as you step out of the car. The neon lights of the (basically) abandoned gas station shine on your skin. Whoever this "jake" was, you two had to hope that he didn't mind two escaped inmates in his store.
To say the least.
You were very wrong.
Jake, was a wrinkly old man with an eye for trouble. Your encounter was a piece of glass being tossed by the wind. It shattered, figuratively, and literally. As you two sped away, Jake threw his slipper at the dusty window of his shop. "Don't you know what you're wearing? You expect ME to serve HIM?" He points a dangly finger at Yancy, "I don't serve his kind here, skedaddle, before you break anything else!" (Technically, you two didn't break anything, Yancy tipped over a vase in the shop, but caught it before it hit the ground. Unfortunately, Jake looked down and saw Yancy's striped pants, (which Jake recognized immediately as prison attire.) "If I see any of y'all on my property again, I'll call the police!" As you two sped away, Yancy sighs, "I'm sorry Y/N.. yous don't deserve this." Yancy pushes his head back against the headrest. "I has a place for yous to go.. they'll be more welcoming there...Maybe."
Maybe was the concerning part...(Authors note)
