YongSun’s head was spinning. She had spent the last day trying to wrap her head around this whole Solarous thing. She was currently sitting with Ernesto in his greenhouse, talking with him as he picked his herbs. Byul and TaeOh did not want to leave her alone with him, after all they had only known him for twenty-four hours, but she insisted that she wanted to have this conversation with him alone. Of course, she knew they were watching her through the glass, pretending to be sparing in the yard while they talked.

YongSun listened to the calming snip of the tools Ernesto was using to trim his plants. “So what powers exactly does a Solarous have?” Ernesto had mentioned to her that he wanted to reverse the binding on her, give her back her powers, but she wanted to know about it before she made the decision. Clearly her father didn’t want her to have these powers for a reason.

He looked over at her, she had been sitting on his work bench. “Each Solarous has had unique powers in a way.” Ernesto’s family had been the keepers of information, it was their life’s task to learn all about the Uju and document it for the next generations. “Each has the same source of powers but each manifest in different ways and in different intensities.” He put a full basket of herbs down and grabbed an empty one. “The four powers all Solarous’ have are healing, musical ability, light, and the site.”

A chill ran down YongSun’s spine. “The site?”

Ernesto nodded. “The Solarous is connected to the universe by spirit, they are able to connect to the past, present, and future.” YongSun was frozen. “Each experience it in different ways, impulses, visions, through cards.”

“Nightmares.” YongSun meant to whisper to herself.

“Yes,” He studied her. “The connection to the Oracle spirit is always the deepest root, even if it might not be the strongest power.” He paused for a moment. “I take it you have experienced some form of this?”

“I get a lot of nightmares, I always have, and sometimes…” She swallowed hard. “I always thought I was kind of crazy when I saw connections to things going on around me.”

He nodded. “The visions are not always clear, especially those that have yet to come. Your future changes with every new choice we make, and the visions can be interpreted in many different ways, it may not always be exactly what you are seeing.” He was still watching her. “Have you experienced any other abilities?”

YongSun almost shook her head, but if she wanted the answers then she needed to be as honest as possible with him. “The other night, I had a conversation with TaeOh about his and Byul’s past. Later on when I was tending to her, it was as if I was living the story through her eyes, as if I was really there.”

Again Ernesto was nodding. “You connected to her past, you two mudt have a deep connection, it is not an easy thing to do. It should have been impossible with the binding, but some stories fight to be told.”

YongSun wasn’t sure why her face heated at that. “So if I unbind my powers, I will get visions? And I can heal, and control light, and...sing?”

Ernesto laughed. “Kind of. Like I said, everyone is different. I would say yes to some sort of vision, maybe just in your dreams but stronger. As for the others, we will only know when we unbind you. You will have all of those powers to some degree but how much is still unknown.”

YongSun started swinging her feet as she contemplated this. “And you would train me? Here?”

“No.” He said flatly. “You can not be unbound or trained here it is too unsafe. If you choose to do this, I will take you to the Knight and it will be done there.”
