WheeIn dragged YongSun to the training area. Byul, TaeOh, and HyeJin followed behind them the whole way there. WheeIn walked her into the centre of the area, facing her to a target painted on a pole nearby. “Hit that.” There was a bit of excitement laced in her voice but it was mostly curiously YongSun picked up from here.
YongSun knew she wasn’t going to be able to hit the target, all the magic she felt boiling up inside her had disappeared when she shot the pole outside Ernesto’s house. Lucky for her HyeJin used her ice magic to freeze it in its place while WheeIn went into Ernesto’s for water to put it out. YongSun was mostly lucky that no one but them had seen what happened, well almost lucky because if WheeIn wasn’t there then she wouldn’t be standing here right now. YongSun really did want to figure out her powers but she was scared she would never be able to control them.
YongSun stared down the target, she tried to conjure the heat she felt just moments ago but nothing come up. She tried lifting her hands, pointing them at the target, nothing. She squeezed her eyes closed in concentration, hoping she could ignite it. She threw her hands down. “I can’t”
WheeIn leveled her with a look. “I just saw you do it, try harder.” YongSun wasn't sure she wanted WheeIn as a teacher, she didn’t seem very patient. Still she tried again but even before she lifted her hands she knew nothing was going to come from them.
“Perhaps she drained her energy?” TaeOh was the furthest from them, leaning on the fence of the arena.
Byul nodded, YongSun found it a bit hard to look at her, her mind had not yet sorted through all the information she received. “She has barely eaten in two days, and she literally just woke up, she is probably drained out.”
WheeIn contemplated it for a moment. “I don’t think so.” Dreaded filled YongSun, she was sure WheeIn was going to make her stand here until she make something happen.
HyeJin moved from her spot next to Byul and lightly rested her hand on the small of WheeIn’s back. “Love, perhaps I can try?” She raised one of her eyebrows. WheeIn looked like she didn’t want to pass YongSun over but after a moment she gave a short nod, HyeJin placed a small kiss on her cheek and took a step forward. She placed a steady hand on YongSun’s shoulder, bringing her a step further from the others, in a very low voice she asked. “What were you thinking about when it happened?”
YongSun had to force her eyes to not look for Byul. “A lot of things.” She answered. “There were a lot of emotions and thoughts going through my head when I did it.”
HyeJin thought about this. “Okay, well for most of us, our powers come from a specific emotion. Mine comes from loneliness, WheeIn’s power comes from her anger.” YongSun almost laughed at that, because it made sense. “Is there another time you felt the same type of...how would you describe the feeling?”
“Heat.” YongSun said without having to think of it. “It is like an unbearable heat, as if I had a thousand fevers at one time.”
HyeJin nodded. “Okay, is there a time you can think of where you had the same feeling? It might not be as powerful as this time because your powers were just unlocked but you will have felt it before, even if you didn’t know it.”
YongSun tried to think. “Making any progress?” WheeIn called impatiently, HyeJin just waved her off. She heard WheeIn huff but YongSun ignored her and tried to think.
The first thought was her palms, the heat was the worst there, as if her hands had combust into flames. YongSun’s temperature had always ran higher than most people, it use to scare her nursemaid every time she felt YongSun’s forehead. But she couldn’t remember a specific reason as to why her hands or body ran warmer than normal. “I know I’ve always ran a higher temperature than most people, and my palms were the most hot when the power came out.”
