N i n e te e n: Wait For Me
One week later...
"Oh, and this was your grandpa and I on your third birthday, you had such puffy rosy cheeks." grandma Violetta chuckled as the wrinkles around her eyes showed more than ever as both her and I were in grandpa's study room in their house in New York as she showed me the scrap books she made amongst the years . Her light brown eyes were no longer as bright as they used to be ever since Grandpa Reece's passing.
"oh, and this was our wedding day, ha-ha, I remember that day like it was yesterday. Ocean water broke during the part when Reece and I were saying 'I do' so we literally had to pause the wedding and take Ocean to the nearby hospital." Grandma said, causing both of us to chuckle.
"I'm really sorry Grandma," I told her truthfully. Grandma Violetta sighed sadly, looking down at the scrap book picture as she traced her finger on Grandpa Reece's face on their wedding day. Grandpa was smiling widely as he wrapped his arms around Grandma who wore a beautifully long white dress in front of their wedding cake.
Warm tears started to fill her eyes. "Almost forty years of marriage, it's still a shock to me that he's really gone," grandma Violetta usually wasn't one to show emotions, this was the first time I have ever seen her well, cry.
I sighed, feeling my grandma's pain. She gave me a sad chuckle to musk her pain before standing up and walking out of grandpa's study room in silence before I could even say anything. The whole house that my mother and her siblings grew up in had such a sad aura to it now.
"Hey dear," I looked up to see my mother's younger sister Aunt Allora. I gave her a small smile as she sat on the single chair across from me.
"Hey, I'm really sorry about grandpa. I know this has an impact on you the most." I told my aunt.
Aunt Allora was just fresh out of college and was currently doing her masters. She was just a few years older than me and while Uncle Aiden, Uncle Ace and my mother already had the chance for grandpa Reece to meet his children's partners and grandchildren before his passing, aunt Allora never got to and I can tell it really took a toll on her.
She chuckled, "it's fine. Dad's just in a happier place watching over us. He's here emotionally and spiritually, just not physically and I'm okay with that," she told me, and I smiled at her due to her encouraging words.
"Lora, aunt Raven is asking for you and let me know if you know where Aiden is, Aunt Veronica and Aunt Zoey need him to fix something," my mom's younger brother- and Aunt Allora older brother, uncle Ace said entering the studying room. When he noticed my presence, he gave me a small smile "hey there sport, haven't seen you in a while. I think your mom was also asking for you," uncle Ace said, ruffling my hair which caused me to smile, he's been ruffling my hair since I was a baby.
"Okay, thank you." I said standing up and aunt Allora did as well as we all exited out of the study room. I greeted a few of my family members along with my parents and grand-parents' friends while my cousins were running crazy around the house while their nannies tried to catch them.
"No, Reece wouldn't want red roses at his funeral, rather a light blue shade. I know this, I'm his girl best friend," I recognized that voice to be grandma Violetta and grandpa Reece's friend, Ocean.
"Ocean, he obviously wouldn't want just blue, I think red and blue is a nice touch," grandpa Reece's and grandma Violetta another best friend Zoey stated.
"Didn't realize we were doing an American funeral." she retorted back causing everyone to scoff at her.
"I think it's better if we just pick one color. Something not to flashy you know?" My dad's best friend Ivan stated as his wife Evelyn snarled.
