This can't be true. But it is. I got picked. I'm going to the palace. Still in shock I stand there, not able to move. "You are going to the palace!" Selene shouts. "My very own sister is going to be a princess!" The few people that are still on the street turn their heads to us. "Selene shhh," I try to silence her, but it doesn't help. Our way home she keeps telling me all the great things that will happen, altough I'm not so sure myself. I don't want this. I just want to stay here and live unseen. The spotlights are nothing for me, I can't even look the more higher castes in the eyes how am I supposed to look at royals then? "Father, father, Maren got selected!" Selene says exited when we walk in. He looks at me and gives a weak smile. He knows what I think about it and understands me like no one ever did. "Selene if you already go to bed I can talk with Maren okay?" Father asks Selene. She nods her head and walks into our bedroom. I sit on the otherside of the table when father starts grabs my hands. "Don't let your mother her history take all the fun you will have away. You are an amazing girl and maybe you should open your heart once, who knows what you will find." I look down at our hands. I didn't want to go to the palace and see the man who wanted my mother, the woman who the spontainously got her place. It is weird to think about the fact I could be a princess living my best life, but I don't want anything else then the life I have now. This small old house, all my small jobs, father, Selene, it is enough for me. "But what if I don't want to? What if I decide to stay here?" I hear him sighting. Why do I need to be so selfish. I just need to go and send back money so when I come back we have it better. "Dear Maren, you are smart enough to realise that this is a chance you will never have again. Go to that palace, go make friends, go have fun, you deserve it not needing to worry about anything." He says with his father voice. I nod. Maybe he is right, maybe I should just give this whole thing a chance and go do something different. One thing is definitly sure, my life is about to change forever.
About a week later a woman from the palace visits us. She is tall, had her blonde with Some grey hair is in a neat bun on the back of her head. She wears a black suit and high heels. "I am here for lady Maren" she says as you can hear the discust in her voice. "We need to look at the rules of the selection. Is your mother here?" She looks around the small house and you can just see in her face expresions that she would ratter be somewhere else then here. "Euhm no, but my father is" I quickly say. "I will go and get him. Selene give this lovely woman something to drink please." As soon as Selene appeared I walk outside to look for father. Together we come back and sit infront of the woman. "Hello" she says with that same discusted face as she shakes father's hand. "I'm Mrs Williams and I'm here to look at Some of the rules," she looks at us over her glasses what makes her even look more...more...more stricter. "First of all we need to know if she is still a virgin." Is she serious? Why would it matter if someone was a virgin or not, and how would they even know for sure? Before I can open my mouth father starts to speak. "Of course she is" he says. "I always needed to send all the candidates away by the door." Was that true? Or was that just a lie to be safe? Because I never noticed anyone even paying intrest in me. The rest she asks some more questions that make absolutely  no sence and then leaves. I shall need to be at the train station in two days and wear our province flower, the carnation for Sota. I'm still not sure if I'm even ready for this, but I shall need to do this. If not for me for Selene and father, to help them get a better life.
