In the couple of weeks since the start of term, Archer did his best to avoid Percy. This of course proved to be quite hard due to the fact that they were roommates and had all of their classes together.
The want to avoid Percy didn't come from not liking him, in fact Archer did like Percy. He was headstrong and intelligent and he knew what he wanted and how to get it. Archer really just didn't want Percy to continue to look down on him.
Archer thought about when he came out as gay during is fourth year. He thought it would be best to inform his roommates due to the fact that they lived together for nine months out of the school year. Oliver and Ravi were supportive of course, but Percy really didn't have any response. It made Archer curious if that was the reason Percy must not like him.
"I don't understand why you seem so bothered by him," Oliver had told Archer one evening. Archer had purposely waited to go into the dormitory until Percy had left for his Prefect duties. "He hates everyone, don't take it personally."
"But I don't want him to hate me," Archer said before flopping backwards onto his bed. "I want to be friends."
"I don't think Percy has any friends," Ravi said pointedly. "He probably just doesn't know how to act."
"I spose you're right," Archer grunted. "How do I make him like me though?"
"What do you mean by like?" Oliver squinted. "Like as friends or..."
"I don't know," Archer shrugged. "I really don't care, honestly. I just want to connect with him."
So Archer made a plan. Percy seemed to value normality. If Archer could just seem normal, not break rules or shag a random Hufflepuff in an unoccupied toilet, maybe Percy would be more accepting.
But this idea conflicted Archer as well. Archer shouldn't have to change who he was just to get Percy to like him.
All of this was just too much for his brain.
On a sunny Tuesday afternoon, Archer found himself relaxing in his dormitory and writing a letter to Miranda. Oliver was at Quidditch practice and Ravi was spending time with a Ravenclaw friend of his. So here Archer was, alone, until Percy walked in.
Percy looked tired, purple bags sat under his eyes and his red hair was in disarray. He propped his book back against the leg of his bed and shrugged his Gryffindor robes onto the floor.
"Hi," Archer greeted him.
Percy must not have noticed Archer as we walked in, as he jumped and tripped over his book bag, falling right to the floor.
"Shit! I'm sorry," Archer jumped up from his bed, and helped Percy off the floor. "I didn't mean to scare you."
"S'alright," Percy shrugged Archer off and brushed off his shirt. "I didn't expect you to be in here. Shouldn't you be off with Ravi or messing around with someone?"
Archer rolled his eyes and sat back on his bed. "You know, I do more than just have sex with people."
Percy raised his eyebrows. "Shocking. So then what are you doing?"
"Writing a letter to someone back home," Archer waved the piece of parchment he was writing on. "She made me promise I write to her once a month."
"She?" Percy's nose twitched. "I thought you were gay."
Archer huffed and shook his head. "Being gay is also not the only thing I am. And Miranda is a friend I went to primary school with. Who also happens to be gay herself."
Percy didn't say anything, just made himself comfortable on top on his covers with the Potion's textbook. He was still dressed in his dress pants and shirt, his tie now much looser around his neck.
Archer blinked, and found himself blushing as he looked at Percy, who was mindlessly flipping through his book. He looked so attractive as he focused in the text with his glasses perched on the bridge of his nose.
Looking away, Archer busied himself with his letter, forcing the thoughts of Percy and how he looked so damn attractive out if his head. He shouldn't even thinking about that, after all Percy didn't even like him as a person.
As Percy sat on his bed, he was well away of Archer's gaze from across the dormitory. He had become quite good at ignoring the boy, but this time proved a bit more difficult.
Percy didn't hate Archer. It was more of the fact that he was forcing himself not to like him. There were high standards he had to hold himself to, and the likes of Archer who broke rules nearly every day would not help him maintain those standards.
Tempting was a word to describe Archer. He was funny, he was much smarter than Percy ever thought. And Merlin's beard he was so good looking.
Percy had never been attracted to a boy before, after all he did what was standard which in this time was being with a woman. He had been talking with Penelope Clearwater for a long time, maybe she was the distraction he needed.
He glanced up at Archer, who was visibly biting his cheek as he scribbled rapidly on his parchment. Percy shook his head to himself.
