Helena
Being dragged can be pretty tiring.
Being shoved in a room full of important looking people after being dragged is embarassing.
Being made to do a song you just heard in front of this important looking people can be...
Borderline Trauma-inducing.
And oh boy am I feeling the embarassment coming.
"So, this is the singer your proposing us to exchange her with?" a man in a rather expensive suit asked Anne, motioning to a sophisticated looking woman lounging at a navy blue couch sofa holding her throat.
She gave me a glance and a perfect eyebrow raise, then resumed to caress her obviously 'painful' throat.
I stood there eyes wide, my mouth tighly shut to save me from further damage.
.
.
Me?!.... A substitute for her?!?!Appaled, I turned to Anne. Waiting for her to explain what the F**k is Going On?!.
She nodded in reply to the man and smiled at me sheepishly.
"This is Helena! She's one of our best background singers here! She will definitely do her best as a temporary substitute of Miss Genevieve!!" She beamed proudly.
"Right, Helena?!" She turned that bright smile to me, flashing me a bit.
She faltered at my anxious frown. Only realizing what she was doing was too abrupt. And can be a huge problem.
Well as much as I am flattered by her words. I never sang a single! I never even sang alone infront of an audience, or people for that matter, other than my family! Ive only ever been a part timer here and occasionally a background voice on occasions.
And now I am to be a temporary substitute for a professional looking canary, singing a song that is expected to be a hit off the charts.
Well, unless someone screw it up.
"Oh yes!! Helena 'ere is the best! She does her job well! I certain!" My boss cut in putting an arm around my shoulder. Causing me to subtly flinch away a little.
"She'll definitely bring yer song to justice Mr. Clyde!" He said to another man who, I just noticed was sitted in an armchair, firmly clutching some papers.
He stands and walks to me with curiosity in his eyes. "We'll see" he murmured, hesistantly giving me the papers, that looks to be lyrics and sheet music, before turning away to the control room.
After a short pause, my boss clapped his hands and bellowed "Well! Lets get you ready! Aint got time too lose.."
And with that the people dispersed and continue that they were supposed to do before it was interrupted.
My boss turned to me with a intense look,
"Well listen ere, Helen.. this is life n' death situation. I put a lot of money just to hire that broad over there and unfortunately they wont give it back. So, my only chance is this and Mr Clyde's song. And if you screw up this stint, It might be the end of me and you, especially you, you dont want that, right?" he said patting my shoulders with his heavy hands.I meekly nodded, while politely removing his hands off my shoulders "Dont worry boss, I wont let you down" I responded, putting a strained smile as I did so.
"Thats my girl!" He said before leaving me.
What did I get myself into?!
