An- ok so I know it's literally been months, I went on vacation and then school started and life was busy. Tbh I completely forgot about this until I check and see THREE THOUSAND READS?! Like what the actual fuck? Pardon my language but SERIOUSLY? I was thinking that maybe I should just stop writing this book but now I have new found encouragement.

Small recap- ok so basically Ari and Miguel are on their way to karate for the first time and Sam stops them and threatens to spill all of Ari's past and then Miguel asks about it...

Now let's begin...

The air was silent, in a sense Ari froze. She was hoping that maybe he didn't catch on we Sam mentioned something along the lines of criminal record, but faith was not on her side and she was stuck either explaining it avoiding the topic completely.

She glanced at Miguel. He was looking right at her. Shit.

"It's not a big deal, I don't really want to talk about it..." I mumbled. I watched him nod slowly as we made our way to the dojo. A thick blanket of silence fell upon us. In my head I was cursing Sam for making things so awkward.

Much too my relief I heard Miguel laugh lightly. "God what happened to us?" He smiles. The awkwardness washed away slowly as we started conversing normally.

The dojo came into view. Excited I run for it. I looked back at Miguel, I could see it written on his face, challenge accepted.

Breaking into a full sprint I reach the door first.
"How does it feel?! You just got beaten by a girl!" I stuck my tongue at him blowing a raspberry in the process.

He seemed very much unaffected. In fact he was smiling. I took this short moment to appreciate his good looks. Damn. "Just wait! I'll show you up with my epic karate skills."

Laughing together we made it in. In all honesty I felt welcome. The dojo seemed to give me encouragement. This was it.

Meeting up with our friends I noticed determined faces on all of them. This is the real deal.  After Miguel introduced me to his sensei I felt ready to show off my hidden talent.

That's right..... I knew fucking karate.  Suck on that!
I took classes as a kid and stopped after my mother left, much to my dads disappointment. I was pretty good at the time.

"Ok Ari, you want me to show you some basic moves?" There goes Miguel again. Trying to be so sweet and innocent. Little did he know. I was determined to kick his ass, even if it meant embarrassment. Well.... maybe.

Nodding I wanted him to have his little moment. He showed me his drills and I was thoroughly surprised. He wasn't half bad! Watching closely to his technique I made sure to use his faults to my advantage when going up against him in the end.

"Your turn."

I performed the punches just as he did. I could feel people eyes staring intently at me.

"What?"

"Have you done karate before?"

"Ummmmmmm. Surprise?"

"Oh my god! Why didn't you tell me?!" Miguel shouted. God can this kid get anymore loud. I just shrugged.

"Well then let's spar." He said triumphantly. How bad could this be? He surely wouldn't cry? Right?

Getting into our stance, I paused. "Wait is this a spar or a full match?"

"Let's find out"

He took the first punch. He had good form and I was thoroughly surprised even more. I hadn't yet seen an opening so I waiting and continued to defend his incoming attacks.

Finally I saw it.

An opening.

His legs were too far apart.

Acting quick I ducked down and swiped him causing him to fall. I misjudged his reaction time and he got up incredibly quick. Taking this moment I made it appear as I was going to punch him. When he blocked for that I turn and kick him straight on the side. I could hear his grunt as he stumbled back a bit.

Success. Well is wasn't over. I was wrapped in my thought when he came back at me. That's when I knew this was no ordinary sparing match anymore.

Thinking quick I dodged. It went on like this for some time until I finally had it, tackling him and successfully pinning him to the ground.

But he did what I least expected. I'm a moment of heat he head butts me. Hard might I add. For a while I see stars. I mumbled profanities in my head as I was left defenseless until my senses came back.

In a few seconds he pins me to the ground. That was it. Miguel had pinned me to the ground winning.

I was actually surprised .

He had won...
