I was eight at the time, a lone wolf for a while because of my traumatic history my wolf merged and bonded with me well before my sixteenth birthday. I can't quite remember much before I had met Lance only that I was alone, abandoned, and maybe unwanted.
"Why are we here?" I asked as we walked towards the swing set, taking a seat I began to swing back and forth waiting for his answer.
"To remind you that you're not alone" he spoke softly pausing for a moment before saying "to remind myself I'm not alone," he said the second part quieter almost as is he didn't want me to hear it.
"Why the sudden sappy motivational pep talk, did Luna Paisley tell you something" I interrogate him, suddenly feeling exposed, I may trust Lance with my life, he is my brother after all but a part of me still feels empty.
He scratched his head, a dead give away when he's guilty "I was kind of nearby listening when you were talking to her" he confessed looking away from me.
"That's an invasion of my privacy" I growl, trying to think why I couldn't sense that he was nearby.
"You're my sister, I deserve to know what's going in your life May" he looks sad as he says that.
"I would've told you" I start, "I was going to tell you" I continue, "I just" I couldn't figure out what to say so I remained quiet.
Lance pulls out his phone and he quickly shows me a photo of a terrible painting of this playground, "remember this?" He asks handing his phone over to me.
I remember painting this for him, having spent nights secretly staying up and talking to my wolf about Lance and how we met. My wolf, like myself just small, a pup wasn't so interested in my antics but the bond between my wolf and Lances wolf was strong.
"Why are you showing me this painting?" Giving him his phone back.
He flashes a quick grin taking a seat on the swing next to mine.
"You made this for me as a gift, we met here almost 10 years ago" he talks as if this is new information, "I had just lost my entire family and was soon to be the newly appointed Beta of Silver Creek Pack when you came out from behind that section of trees growling like a rabid wolf, you smelled like a rogue but I could tell from your eyes that you hadn't become rabid, where they should've been red from how long you've been without a pack they shone gold" this part of his story was new to me as he had never really told me the full details of our meeting.
"Your wolf came up to me, your head just reaching my thigh when a wolf should reach to shoulder height" he chuckled.
My ears hung onto his every word.
"I realised that you were an early shifter when your wolf collapsed at my feet and your human form surfaced" his eyes glassed over at the memory. "I waited at a distance to see if anyone was coming for you, I must've been here for hours when the sun had set; I called Alpha Baron asking his permission to bring you to the pack, he flat out rejected my proposal but I brought you anyways because your wolf had gold eyes and an Alpha blood pup wandering around on its own brings danger to themselves and surrounding packs"
I grabbed his hand and gave it a light squeeze, indicating for him to continue his story.
"Luna Paisley's motherly instincts kicked in the second her eyes laid on you and so Alpha Baron had no choice to accept you into the pack, and of course we had to register you into the human community and Alpha Baron refused to be your legal guardian much to Luna Paisleys dismay, we decided that I would be your legal guardian because your wolf only trusted mine and we would raise you in the Packhouse away from the Pack until you became less rabid and a danger to the Pack" he sighed which I took as a sign that the story was over.
"How come you're telling me this now?" I pestered, "why not sooner?" I let go of his hand and gripped the swing waiting for his response.
"May do you know why only certain wolves have gold eyes?" He asked me, ignoring my question.
"No, why?" I answered honestly, I knew I had been told previously but the information essentially went in one ear and out the other.
"Gold eyes signify Alpha blood, silver for beta, and bronze for gamma" he answers.
It takes me a second to process what he was saying, "they shone gold" I repeat what he said earlier.
He nods, "you're from an Alpha bloodline, meaning you are mated to an Alpha" he answers and although it doesn't all quite add up I understand what he is saying. "There is still only one remaining pack within a thirty-minute radius on the other side of the human community, Rose Eclipse"
"You're saying my mate is the Alpha of the Rose Eclipse Pack?" I ask and Lance nods.
"That could be possible, but there are still many unanswered questions but May you need to be careful, our Packs are not on good terms" he rubs his face and only now I notice how much older he appears.
"What do you mean not on good terms?" I ask softly not forcing him to answer but curiosity is clouding my better judgement.
"I can't remember what started it but Silver Creek Pack and three other Packs including Rose Eclipse have been in war since long before I was born, the fighting has since stopped since the humans built the town on what was the dividing line between the four Packs, two of the Packs sort of disappeared I don't know the details as it happened when I was just a pup" he talks getting up and heading towards the car.
"We don't know what we're up against, or where your family and bloodline originates from, so if you choose to pursue your mate, and I know you will because the urge to become bonded with you mate increases the longer you delay, but whatever happens from now onwards you tell only me okay?" He asks sternly looking me in the eye as I hop into the passenger seat.
When I nod he finally starts up the car and we start the drive back to the Packhouse.
