Thea-May

"I think it's time that you unenroll from public school and start taking on more duties around the pack" Luna Paisley commented as I sat at the dining hall table picking at my toast suddenly losing my appetite.

It's not that I loved public school, in fact, it was probably the worst for me. I get teased by the humans and wolves from other packs. Most of the time it doesn't bother me but sometimes they go a bit too far, and I almost let my wolf out, and that is not an option. I can't compromise my pack by letting mere words affect me.

"I mean you're nearly 18 Thea" she adds after I don't reply.

I look at her belly she's nearly due with her first pup, a boy no doubt it's rare for an Alpha pair first child to be a girl. At times it seems like I'm her child, and it's easy for me to forget that I was an abandoned baby.

"I guess I should head to school now," I say ignoring her previous statements, "I can get the withdrawal papers from the office," I take my toast and bag leaving the table.

"Thea I can take you to school today" Luna Paisley follows close behind me, "Baby and I have a few errands to run in town," she says linking her arm through mine as she rubs her belly with her free hand. "It should save you the twenty-minute walk to school from pack grounds"

Before I could protest, Luna Paisley and I were sitting in the back of one of the many pack cars, her personal guard in the passenger seat and Beta Lance my legal guardian and brother in the driver's seat.

Soon enough we were in front of my high school, our pack made it mandatory for all underage wolves to attend a public school to take suspicion away from the humans on our closed gate community living situation.

"Thank you for the ride, Lance, goodbye Luna Paisley" rushing out of the car so they can drive away before I draw any more attention to myself than already. I realise that I'm now twenty minutes too early for the bell, I head towards the administration office better get my withdrawal papers ready.

On the way to the office, my senses were suddenly enveloped I felt dizzy, my sense of smell focused on a particular scent, almost like citrus. My hearing become heightened trying to find something or someone.

I could hear his voice, my eyes scanning the surroundings trying to put a face to the voice. He laughed, making jokes to whoever he was talking to, as if on autopilot my wolf urges me closer to the sound of his voice and before I knew it, I was outside the office, the glass door the last thing standing between my mate and me.

I could see his back from where I stood, his outfit screamed confidence. Looking down at my own, I frowned what if he didn't like me, what if he thought I was ugly, what if he thought I wasn't worth his time, worse off what if he rejected me? Surely that hasn't been the case in over a hundred years, even if it took time mates never rejected their other half.

The wish for him to turn around and notice her were replaced with hopes that he wouldn't, but it was too late because when I came to my senses he was right in front of me. No glass wall, just air.

"I-I-I" words were stuck in my throat, transfixed by his eyes, his nose, his lips, his skin, hypnotised by him. "My mate" I finally spoke calmly slightly from the high of having my mate in front of me.

"Excuse me" our moment was brought to an abrupt end as we were blocking the way to the office, a pretty girl spoke softly asking to pass through.

"Oh sorry" I apologised stepping aside and breaking eye contact with my mate before we could continue where we left off the school bell rang. Taking the opportunity as my worries became persistent I shot off to class without another look back.

My wolf Ivy whines, pawing in my mind clearly showing her opinion on my runner. I pushed back choosing to ignore her and focus on my work, seeing as I'll be leaving soon it seems pointless but anything to get my mind off the wandering negative possibilities involving my mate. Even if things worked out, I could sense that he is of the Alpha bloodline as if his stature and confidence weren't enough evidence of my thoughts.

"Penny for your thoughts? Thea-May" the teacher spoke dragging me out from my mental daze. Instantly I felt the eyes of every one of my classmates, human and werewolf on me. A few snickers could be heard and it was as if those were the only things I could hear.

The room began to spin I began feeling dizzy again, I go to stand up and I feel my legs almost collapse beneath me. I lean against my desk.

"Thea are you not feeling well? Shall I get the nurse" the teacher's voice comes out muffled overpowered by the ringing in my ears.

"I need to get out" I repeat over and over clutching the side of my head, needing to get out of this overcrowded room and into the fresh air. I grab my bag and rush out of the classroom, through the empty hallways and out the gate.

My wolf Ivy nor I focused on anything as we ran towards the forest that surrounded our packhouse, my mind became free as I felt the wind against my skin the sound of my shoes crunching on branches and fallen autumn leaves accompanied by the chirping of the birds helped to ease my anxiety that I forgot about why I was running in the first place.

I wasn't focused on any of my surroundings when I finally saw the tree it was too late to stop and soon enough I was heading straight into it.

Hey guys sorry for this long-awaited update, I have finally been able to rewrite the story in a way that doesn't make me entirely cringe and create a more structured storyline without too many irrelevant side trails. Hopefully, this chapter will serve as a pilot so that you are able to get a feel for the new storyline (if you were here for the original storyline) please let me know your thoughts on this chapter so I know where to carry on from this or to start again completely, your opinion means a lot to me as an aspiring writer. Again sorry for the long wait and I hoped you enjoyed this new version of His Crooked Heart.
