Mami woke up with a start, her heart pounding. She sat straight up in bed, her wavy golden hair settling around her shoulders. "Oh, just another one of those strange dreams..." She remarked.

The blond-haired girl slid her slippers on and padded out to the kitchen, rubbing her eyes. Mami took out her kettle and filled it with water, absent-minded. She always made tea before school.

Mami set the kettle to boil on her stove, and took a seat at her triangular glass coffee table to wait.

Mami lived alone in a small apartment, so of course she got lonely. Surprisingly often, too. She tried to push the sad thoughts out of her mind, but sometimes, it was just too difficult.
This was one of those times.

Mami's deep thoughts were interrupted a few minutes later by a loud whistling noise from the kitchen. "Ahh! The water must be ready!" Mami swiftly took the kettle off the stove and shut the gas off. She dropped a tea bag into the metal pot to steep.

While the tea soaked, Mami would get ready. She walked to her room, and slipped on her black and white plaid skirt. Next was the white shirt. Then the beige coat with the bow in the back. Mami fastened the red bow tie around her neck, and yanked on her dark brown stockings. She brushed out her hair, and twirled it into two huge twists on either side of her head, securing them with gold flower hair pins.

After getting ready, Mami made her way back to the kitchen, where she poured herself a cup of freshly brewed tea.

While waiting for the hot drink to cool, she checked the contents of her fridge. Her pre-packed bento lunch, some lettuce, leftover cake... Ahh, a slice of pecan pie! Mami took the pie out, and heated it up in her microwave.

Finally, she was able to sit. Mami brought her tea and pie over to the coffee table, and say facing the huge ceiling-to-floor window. She had a spectacular view of the city from her apartment, and enjoyed watching people on their early-morning commute.

Mami took a sip of tea and smiled. She let out a small sigh, and for once, it was a happy one.
