Lunch was most certainly a time looked forward to by all the students at Mitakihara Middle School. Mami couldn't help but smile as she casually strolled outside to her favorite spot. She quite loved being outside, so she chose a nice, shady spot in the grass.
Mami sat down criss-cross in the feathery, vibrant green grass. Spring is likely the blonde girl's favorite season because of this. Though, she was always bad at deciding on favorites.
She unpacked her lunch methodologically. First, Mami untied the cute cloth used to wrap her lunch box, decorated with little bunnies and flowers. Bunnies are so great. Next, she separated the two box compartments, decorated in a similar way as the bag. Mami placed the formerly stacked boxes next to each other on the cloth.
The misfit eighth grader popped open one of the boxes and began to eat her plain onigiri. Plain as in, not decorated to look like anything more than a classic rounded triangle.
Mami watched her classmates run around and squeal with delight. The air was full of laughter. It surrounded the curly-haired girl like monarch butterflies clinging onto a tree. Maybe this simile was inspired by a delicate orange and black butterfly dancing through Mami's field of vision as she watched the scene around her.
It was almost just like class, but outside and louder and with more running. Mami actually enjoyed watching the makeup girls take their questionable photos. Unlike the few other misfits, she did not aspire to be like the makeup girls.
Mami's makeup-oriented train of thought was interrupted by a loud bell ringing. Lunch was over. That's okay, she was done eating anyway.
