Kacy ran and ran—this time faster than ever. Now wasn't the time to think. She didn't have time to think. She just ran.
It wasn't training time.
It wasn't one of those times when she was at her ordinary high school and she ran during her physical education period.
It was time to save her own life.
With running.
Sweat trickled down her forehead. She could her footsteps behind her moving slowly, but getting closer by the seconds.
No one else she knew was there.
This time, she was alone. She didn't have anyone to help.
And she was just going to depend on herself.
Kacy knew she was running out of time, and her running wasn't helping.
But there was nothing else she could do.
And then, she hears a voice. An extremely familiar voice.
Oh god, please say someone else isn't here to die with me too, Kacy thought. She didn't want anyone to die for her—not again.
But when she turned around, her heart stopped beating. She couldn't even function.
There, in a hooded man's arms, was her mother, crying for her name.
Her real, human mother.
And she looked like she was being threatened, with a knife held to her throat.
