In a world full of technology, those with brains, brawn or talent rise to the top. Some devise exceptional ideas which transform into more than simple reality. Some people fight their way to the top, overtaking their opponents in terms of physical activity. Some people take extreme diets to look good and make sure they continue a modelling profession. Some sing or play their hearts in a spotlight.
I want to be one of those people- to rise above everyone else. To achieve that goal, each moment of my life I’ve played on the guitar. To play my way into a new fantasy with each note. To hear the sound of high-pitched and low-pitched noises. To continue to make a melody. For others to hear.
That’s my goal.
Currently, I am nowhere close to accomplishing it. I am a twenty-one-year-old loser living in their mother’s house. I am a loser who has a part-time job in a retail store. Someone who just continuously plays the guitar in his room, not bothering to come out and say hello.
But recently, maybe, I could finally start achieving that dream. Why? Because, somehow, I managed to get a gig at a new nightclub as a guitarist. Well, I don’t have a band but they said they wanted solo players. So, I think, I got lucky. Real lucky.
That’s where I am at the moment. In a small, updated nightclub. The sound of the loud cheers, the bass echoing in each corner of the room loudly. The crowded dance floor, no available tables. The smell of alcohol everywhere. The sound of sloppy kissing and moans from the typical love couch.
It was awesome, excluding the fact that I have no love life.
Really. I had crushes before in the past, but I was rejected each time I asked them out. Once, they threw the flowers back at my face while shouting ‘No’. The next day, it turns out that she lost her virginity to the popular kid, Tyson Illason. It broke me into pieces, and from then on, I never asked out another crush of mine.
I was a loser, I always will be.
It was my turn to stum my way into the spotlight. To be able to look at the crowd and see all of their smiling faces. It could possibly be the start of something. The start of something that could write my name into history. To be remembered.
"Now, please welcome Y/N L/N onto the stage"
It feels so real, yet a dream.
I took my first step towards the stage, another step, and so on. I kept going and going, not able to stop myself. Soon enough, all I could see was everyone's faces on the dance floor below me, some staring at my worn-out face, others at the beautiful women and handsome men. I took a deep breath.
"Hello, my name is Y/N L/N. Today I'll be playing-"

Oneshot: The strum and the beat

It has been roughly an hour since I have left the stage. I have to admit, it was quite fun, strumming the night away. I am not the best, you have to admit that much. The best performance of the night belongs to a twenty-year-old girl called Tainaka Ritsu. Her beat on the drums was special, like a collision of heartbeats tangling into one.
I have to admit, despite her music, her looks is decent. She has short brown hair which bounced up and down. She had a white headband with a flower on it. She has brown eyes as I recall too. Although, if you compare it to the lady smoothing the rich-are guy on the couch, she flatter than a board.
"Hey! I heard you on the guitar earlier. Wasn't your name Larry or something?"
I instantly jumped back, spilling my Carribean beer can all over the bar bench. The girl looked at me with a carefree smile. It's too innocent. Wait, isn't she that drummer I was thinking about? Talk about coincidence, it's as if I was a protagonist in some sense.
"I was only kidding, your L/N-chan right? You play the guitar… Wait, geez, up close you look like a birds nest…" She states.
Geez, does this girl know self control. She's acting like a total airhead.
"Well, either way you wanna practice together sometime? I mean, we could become a duo. I'll play the drums while you play the guitar and sing your heart out? You can also teach my friend on how to play the guitar too! My friend Mugi wants to learn to play the guitar now… even if she can play the keyboard and piano…" She asked.
The female grabs my empty beer can, holding it up to my face. She swinged it side to side. I push it to the side, glaring at her.
"Why would I practice, teach one of your buddies or team up with you short stuff? Sure, You know how to use the drums, but with that sort of attitude, do you think someone like me would say yes to something like that?" I respond, I lean in until my face is seven centimeters away. "Also, if I look like a birds nest, would I be shady?"
"Someone who's shady wouldn't play the guitarist version of Ariana Grande's song called 'into you'." The thing teased.
"How did you know?!"
"It was obvious. Well, if we practiced together, maybe I could teach you how to write your own songs. Plus, it looks like you don't have a proper job, huh?"
"You speak too much"
"Well, your boring"
In a way, she is right. I don't ever loosen up as much as everyone else I knew. As everyone was out partying, I was in my room playing the guitar. When everyone had to study, I tossed all of my homework into the fire pit at our old house. When exams came around, I always pretended to be sick and fail them with ease.
Actually, come to think of it, it makes sense why I was rejected forty-six times. All my life, I had been evolving around the guitar. I played it day and night, listened to music every recess and lunch that had ever existed, and barely socialized. I had no friends, nor a life. People thought that they'll be my number two, not compatible and not imitate enough.
Maybe I should loosen up a little, maybe I should try to experience new, horrifying things. For example, have a socializing new experience. I mean, considering how much times I socialized, all of them involve my teachers, girls I asked out, my mother and my father. Actually, minus those girls, I asked most of them out by a written letter.
"Fine, I'll practice with you"
"Yay! I'll ask Mugi to bring tea and cookies!"
Wait, what?
I mean, isn't this meant to end with 'Little did I know I will fall in love with this girl after she said, 'That's amazing. Well, I did either way, and made ourselves something called lives. However, I accidentally got her pregnant with a horror child.
