Dylan would never admit that she actually enjoyed that... date. It was... sweet of him to recognize that she probably hadn't had the time to go out and see the home she'd been away from for six years. Beyond that, when she wasn't barking at him, Max was actually a decent companion. She'd done so much more laughing, giggling even, than she'd done in her life but this wasn't high school. This wasn't Marcus Bremen.
This was real life. And that meant her main priority was on the Fury she had spotted.
Dylan knew it was no coincidence that a Fury had shown up the same day she'd gone into town and with someone no less. Something was being played here, and Dylan may as well be stepping into all the right traps. However, it was a risk she needed to take. If it was meant for her to go down, she'd go down fighting.
It was silent in the car during the drive home, but it wasn't the slightest bit awkward, just... tense. Thankfully, Max didn't ask any questions like he promised he wouldn't and Dylan figured that he somehow knew more than he was supposed to. Regardless, he hadn't mentioned anything (likely because she hadn't), but it was the least of her concerns. A Fury in her territory meant trouble and trouble only.
Of course, the Furies didn't know that Cunningham was her birthplace but it makes no logical sense as to why they'd traveled from Tacoma to Cunningham when it's been tried and true that Tacoma has more to offer than Cunningham. The only reason Cunningham got as many "visitors" as it did was that it's right outside of Vegas and, often, "visitors" were headed to Vegas.
Dylan had contacted Zach without a second thought. True to the word he'd given her before, he and Byte had been keeping a close eye on the Furies, but Dylan wanted more. Watching over the Furies from a long distance was no longer enough.
"I want men in Tacoma. They need to keep a close eye on the Furies and be in the ready. Then, I want men in Cunningham, spread out around the MC clubhouse and my brother's house. I have weaknesses now, Zach, and I'll be damned if I let them come in between this crossfire," she'd told the said man and Byte over the phone, knowing the latter was listening in.
The next few days after the incident, Dylan did her own fortification. After she'd dropped Millie to the hospital and Audrey to school, she'd return to the house where Baylor was waiting. He'd graciously supplied her with a few firearms and often vouched when she went off to work. Most days she worked from home, but when she did go to the base, she was coordinating and calculating both her missions and that of her company's.
However, things began changing a few days before Adam was said to be released from the hospital.
Dylan knew that having a husband in the hospital with harrowing wounds and being pregnant was bound to drive a woman crazy, and she did not doubt in her mind that Millie—Mildred, sorry—was having a hard time. She was pleasantly surprised at how well the said woman was holding herself up despite her situation though. Dylan had yet to see any tears on Millie's—Mildred's, dammit—records since she'd arrived and it helped her understand why her brother married her. Mildred was a strong woman, no doubt about that, she held herself up high and held an aura of confidence that if she and Dylan weren't at odds at the moment, they'd probably be great friends.
It had been a tiring day for Dylan between managing Millie—aw, fuck it—and Audrey, running to the store, then going to work to handle a mission that had gone to shit while simultaneously making she wasn't caught. By the end of the day, Dylan wanted nothing more than to sink into the bathtub with a nice bottle of wine and Netflix—particularly 'The Witcher' because every girl needs a bit of Henry Cavill in their lives now and then.
