DOLLS
Chapter 19
Hanging by a Thread
Scarlett's POV
Warning: This is not edited!
"Scarlett? Are you awake?" Some one was poking me and I didn't like it. I moaned and tried to tell them to stop. "Scarlett, your family is here."
"No." I mumbled, "That's not funny." I cleared my throat and felt extremely sore.
"Don't wear out your voice." I decided to open my eyes, the lights made everything seem so blurry. I didn't want to wake up, why was everything not piecing together?
"I can't remember anything." I mumbled, I reached forward and was met with a cold, yet sweaty hand. "Where am I?" The fuzzy room became clear and I saw three people standing near me.
The first person was an old lady, a nurse? She had to be, this was a hospital wasn't it? I looked at the boring wallpaper and smelled the hospital food tray that was sitting beside the hard blue couch.
"Where's Chloe?" I begged in my cugar voice. The nurse gave a frown and whispered something to the person beside me before leaving. I looked to my right, my father was standing there. I frowned for a second, but eventually bursted into tears. Everything was so quiet, he wasn't talking. It was like he didn't even know me. My appearence might have changed but nothing else. The silence was so dissapointing for me.
"Talk to me dad." I sobbed and quickly hugged his neck tightly. His glasses almost fell at my aggressive affection. I laughed and cried into his shoulder at the same time.
"Its okay sweetie. You're alright."
My dad realeased me with tears in his eyes.
I then shifted to my left and saw my mom there. I really didn't want to cry anymore. But my emotions took control and I hugged her the same way. I looked at her large stomach and how it was about to pop.
"Your baby?"
"Her name is Kaitlyn."
I shook my head and covered my red face. It sounded too much like Kaylnn for my liking. My life feels like it was pieced together with glue, but its cheap glue and it isn't sticking.
"Your long hair is gone." My mom smoothed the top out. I smiled at the sound of her voice
"Scarlett, you need to know something." My dad put on his serious voice, I uncovered my face and looked away from both of them. A small machine beeped and fluids were being injected in my left arm.
"Scarlett, when you were in the fire." He could barley swallow at the pain he was feeling.
What was it? I looked in his eyes, he walked to the end of the bed and softly rubbed my left leg that was covered in a blanket. I knew where this was going and moved the blanket for him. My left leg was fine with just a few patch marks but my right leg looked horrible. Actually there was no leg, the whole limb up to my knee was gone.
I quickly covered my mouth in shock. I shut my eyes tightly and sobbed in my hands. I lifted the white blanket and bit on it so I wouldn't scream. My moter then cried with me, but hers were much more fake than mine. This was new information for me, I would've never thought that this would happen. My father then slammed his fist on the wall and walked to the window to take his mind off of things. The crying had gotten to a point where I couldn't breathe.
Knowing my mom she quickly called my doctor and kept me awake. I could feel the bags under my tired eyes, I wanted rest. As we waited my mom asked what I didn't think I would hear in a while.
