Year 1857 Volterra Italy
Aro Caius and Marcus all sat in the throne room quietly waiting for Heidi to return with their meal. It had been a dull few days, no trials, no reports made, the kings were actually quite bored. Suddenly a bright light appeared in the center of the room. Everyone stared in shock watching as the light slowly dimmed revealing a single folded piece of paper. Dimitri slowly approached the paper and picked it up. "Masters, it's addressed to you." Aro stood and held out his hand for the page. Once Dimitri handed it to him Aro saw all three of their names written in elegant handwriting on the folded sheet. Both Caius and Marcus now stood at his side as he unfolded the letter. They inhaled at the scent of jasmine and honey coming from the page, a scent that troubled them as much as it excited them. "Hello, I'm sorry if this letter finds you at a bad time. I simply wanted to make my presence known to you. While I cannot tell you everything about myself at this time, I will tell you everything I can. For starters my name is Penelope I'm currently 16 years old. I live with my adopted mother, we move around a lot. I know quite a bit about you three such as that you are vampires. Don't worry, your secret is a sacred as my own and I will not betray that to anyone. I enjoy seeing you smile Aro, but it makes me wonder why Marcus and Caius don't. Caius, your paintings are some of the most beautiful works I've seen. Marcus, you're an extremely skilled musician, I wish you played more. I sometimes look in and listen to you play when I have trouble sleeping. Aro, the gardens you tend to are absolutely gorgeous, although I'm sure no one outside of those walls know you have a green thumb, well aside from me! I know you are curious but I ask out of respect for me, please don't try looking for me. Even with Demitri's help you won't succeed in finding me. Believe me I would love to meet in person, but the time is not right. I'm still very young and I haven't finished my training, magic takes many decades to perfect! I'm sorry that you have to wait, but I guess it's a good thing we're all immortal!
All my love, Penelope."
The kings were frozen in shock, how could someone they've never met know so much about them? Another worry was, would this girl stay true to her word and keep their existence a secret? Only time would tell.

The kings had continued to receive letters from Penelope over the years. They looked forward to hearing from her. She told them about her training, her travels, any challenges she faced, they loved reading about all of it! At times she would even send warning to them if someone tried to attack or turn against them. She fascinated the kings, they had quickly fallen in love with their mystery writer and over the years that love only grew. Eventually they realized that Penelope was a witch as well as their mate. Aro spent a great portion of his free time in the gardens he wanted to keep everything in perfect condition in case she showed up one day. Caius started painting the queens wing of the castle, he made sure each room had a different masterpiece all in her honor. Marcus spent his free time playing the cello just in case Penelope was having trouble resting, it warmed him to know that even from a distance he could bring peace to his mate. The only time he truly smiled was when he played for her.
Year 2006 Volterra Italy
The kings were currently gathering witnesses for a problem that was rising in the United States, supposedly an immortal child had been created. While this was an issue that had to be investigated what truly angered the kings was the mass numbers that rose to stand against them! Aro sighed "It's a shame all these numbers that are insuring there own destruction." Just then a bright light shone in front of them. The letter was only four words "Please don't do this." The kings hated to disappoint their mate but they had no choice they had to uphold the law, so for the first time ever they ignored Penelope's warning. They were completely unaware of what would await them when they got back.
