twenty-five

After several attempts to fall asleep, I gave up.
It was now shortly before five o'clock.
So I finally decided to stay up and spend the morning on the couch.

I turned on the TV, made myself a warming tea, and a wonderful breakfast. Not a bad start for a Monday morning.

As I sat there, slowly eating and waking up, I kept looking at the apartment door.
I usually hated having to admit something to myself, but at that moment, I wouldn't have minded if my dream had come true and Arthur had just come in at any moment.

I was very excited to see when I would meet him again during the day.

I fell asleep again between six and half past seven and was awakened by the soft ringing of my alarm clock.

Like every morning I had to work, I got ready and left my apartment at half past eight.

My way led to the elevator, where I was surprised.
Two men from a cleaning company stood in the hallway, cleaning and painting the walls.  "Wow ..." I whispered, greeting the two in the same breath.
They smiled.  Probably their only means of communication on a Monday morning.

Through the previous evening it seemed that Arthur and I had never had an argument, let alone not seen each other for several days.

I entered our shop with a smile.
Riley was waiting for me.
She stood behind a clothes rack and sorted reduced goods according to their size.
Before I greeted her and told her the latest, I took my things away.

The further I ran to Riley, the wider my smile became.
"Well, what happened to you? Did you win the lottery?"
She hung up a blue blouse and then turned to me.
"No. Apart from not even playing the lottery ..." My grin didn't go away.
"Now tell me what's going on!" Riley pushed.
I nodded.  "Okay, okay ... So first ..."
I took a deep breath.
"I dreamed of Arthur again. Sure, I've done that before, BUT!" I gestured with my hands in front of Riley's face, "BUT this time it was somehow different ..."
I lost the thread of my sentence when I thought about this dream and Arthur.
"And secondly?"
I blinked.

"Secondly, Arthur was miraculously awake at the same time as me. After this dream, I walked around the hallway a bit because I couldn't logically fall asleep. Anyway, it wasn't long before Arthur was standing next to me."
Riley nodded.
"Okay and what happened then? Did you kiss? Or did other things happen?"
She quickly raised her eyebrows several times.  I shook my head.
"Riley! Stop it! Something much better happened. He apologized to me."

We moved away from the round clothes rack and headed for the counter.
"So what's it like now? Can you accept if you develop feelings for your Arthur? I mean, if the dream even felt different ..."
I didn't understand why you think I should develop feelings immediately.  I shrugged my shoulders.
"I don't know. I don't know. I think I won't worry about it anymore. I'll notice early enough whether I feel anything for him or not."

With a push of a button, I switched on the POS system.
"And what do you think, when you notice that?"
I looked at Riley.
"Riley, I've been single for a while, but that doesn't mean I don't know what love feels like."
Now that I said it, I wasn't so sure anymore.
"Lila, trust me. You already feel something for him. Let me guess ..."

I interrupted her.
"No, Riley. I'm not going to let you guess. I just wanted to tell you what happened. That doesn't mean you have to make guess after guess again! If I fall in love, that's the way it is. Likewise, if it doesn't. "

Actually, I wanted to talk myself out of it by telling Riley that she was wrong, but my thoughts became more and more Arthur after every word I said.
