Part 2 Life Choices. Chapter 46 Time to Recover

The next morning, a nurse brought Rory in a wheelchair down to the spa area in the hospital where Jess was waiting for her in one of the acupuncture treatment rooms. Mia and Angus had come early that morning, bringing Rory a pair of Yoga pants and a loose T-shirt so she would be comfortable when she had her acupuncture treatment. Jess grinned when he saw the nurse wheel her in the waiting room.

"I can take it from here," he told the nurse. "How are you feeling this morning?" He asked Rory as he wheeled her into the treatment room. "Not as sick as I have been, they gave me some anti-nausea medicine this morning, and it seemed to help."

Rory looked around the room and heard the relaxing music that was coming from speakers hidden somewhere in the room. She noticed a massage table covered with a sheet and blankets in the middle of the room. A reclining chair was beside a large window that had a view of the pond that was in the back property of the hospital. She watched as the swans swam lazily in the water.

Rory snorted. Jess looked up and noticed where she was looking.

"Swans?" she asked him.

"I'm safe. They are out there, and I'm inside where our paths never cross. Plus, some of my patients find them relaxing to watch."

Jess placed her wheelchair beside a small table and stool where he sat. She took a deep breath and smiled when she inhaled the aroma of Lavender and peppermint. Suddenly she didn't feel nervous anymore.

Rory looked over at the table and the charts that covered the walls. "What are you going to do to me?"

Jess grinned. "I promise you will like this. Acupuncture is safer for you and your baby, and it has been practiced for centuries. The first thing I am going to do is check your pulse and inspect your tongue. Then I am going to use these little needles and place them in certain points in your hands, wrist, elbows, and other areas that will stimulate the blood flow or qui (chee). " Jess took her small wrist in his hand and placed his fingers on it.

"Oh," she said when she felt him press his fingers on the crease of her wrist.

"I want you to sit back and relax," he told her and then gently pressed his fingers on her wrist, jotting down notes on a chart in front of him. After five minutes, he asked, "Stick out your tongue." Jess peered inside and then sat back. He then made some notes on his chart before he helped her out of the wheelchair.

"Okay, this will take about thirty minutes. I want you to climb up on the massage table and relax. Lie on your back and place your head on the pillow. Are you comfortable?" he asked her as she lies on her back.

"Yes," she said.

"Good, I am going to put some alcohol on your wrist where I will insert the needles, and a few places on your leg and feet. " Jess wiped the areas on her wrist, then he lifted her pant leg and removed her socks, cleaning the area he was going to use with the alcohol pads. Jess continued to explain to her what he was doing. "After I place the needles in the points, I will turn on the heat lamps so you will be comfortable and let you relax for twenty minutes. Then I will return to the room and remove the needles. I will bring you back to your hospital room where Finn will be waiting to take you home. Okay?"

"Okay," she responded looking at him anxiously.

"Relax, I promise this won't hurt at all. I am not going to put many needles in you today since this is your first time. Ready? Take a deep breath." As Rory took a deep breath in, Jess inserted a needle. "Let the breath out. Did you feel that?"
