time skip to like holiday break:

"guess where we're going today?" payton asked me, sitting on my bed.

"where?" i replied, looking up from my phone. i was looking at pictures of mattia. he had been super busy over holiday break so we've barely talked.

"my mom bought us tickets to fly out to the hype house." he beamed.

"wow! i'm finally going to meet charli." i laughed, standing up.

"we're going to be there for about a week. we fly in today and fly back here next sunday." he smiled.

"i'm sorry excited to see chase again." he danced.

"shut up and help me pack shit head." i threw a pillow at him.

chase texted me.

chasebear: charli is screaming her head off

chasebear: she literally can't wait to meet you in person

chasebear: also if you got me, jaden, charli, sam, etc. gifts bring them, we're all here and have yours

lydzbean: ah

lydzbean: i'm sorry mother trucking excited

chasebear: see you soon bff

"who were you talking to?" payton asked.

"chase. he told me to bring my friends gifts. i feel bad because i don't have gifts for everyone in the hype house." i frowned.

"are you friends with any of them?" he replied.

"not really. i briefly spoke to ryland and boy, he is hot." i giggled.

"you have a boyfriend." payton reminded me.

"yeah a boyfriend who i genuinely haven't spoken to in two days." i stopped laughing.

"really?" he responded.

"yeah. he's been busy and so have i, so we haven't had time to talk. i sent him texts each morning and he hasn't even read them." i sighed.

"i'm sorry, lyds." payton frowned.

"it's okay. let me go meet my love, charli." i laughed, grabbing my suitcase.

payton's mom drove us to the airport that way, we wouldn't have to leave a car there. i was sitting in the front seat because i called shotgun before payton could. his mom kept looking over at me.

"what's up? you look off." she said.

"you can tell?" i replied.

payton was sleeping in the backseat with his airpods in, so he couldn't hear us.

"of course i can. i'm a mother." she chuckled. "but really, what's going on sweetheart?"

"i feel like my entire life is just falling apart. i'm positive my parents are getting a divorce. my mom moved out two weeks ago, so it's just my dad and i, as of right now. mattia won't talk to me. he keeps saying he's busy and i get it, but i miss him. sometimes i can hear my dad crying at night and i just feel so hurt, because i can't do anything." i started crying.

"i can't tell payton, because i don't want him to worry about me, and this is why i don't want to go to california. my dad, he's going to be all alone for a week." i said.

"oh sweetie, your dad knows. i talked to him this morning. he never told me that he and your mom split up. i'm so sorry, lydia. i'm sure mattia really is just busy." she reassured me.

"i swear payton, stop." i whined. we had been on the flight for a while now and payton was annoying me. he kept changing the song on his phone before another one finished.
