They were surrounded, while they were asleep a pack of rabid wolves had gathered around their tent hoping for a midnight snack. Cruze was a light sleeper so when he heard the crunching of dry leaves on the ground outside, he immediately went to check out what it was. What he found was not what he was suspecting at all. Cruze hurriedly woke the others to tell them of their dilemma. Their reaction wasn't of surprise or fear, but of pure annoyance. "They're not going to come into our tent they'll just wait until we come out so why don't we just wait until morning and see if they're still there, okay?" Wyatt said annoyed and tired.
"Oh yeah, I didn't think of that, I'm sorry for waking you guys up. I'm so stupid" Cruze mumbled.
"It's all good ifi you hadn't told us what was waiting outside for us. One of us would've accidentally wandered right into a face full of teeth, and trust me, Cruze, you're not stupid at all". Riley replied with a smile, hoping to cheer him up.But as the sun could be seen rising on the horizon their hopes of the disappearance of the stubborn furry creatures were crushed. Wyatt unzipped the tent and popped his head out and told the others the news they weren't looking for. Four creatures were still there waiting for their prey to come to face them.
"Seriously, they didn't leave! We have to fight some more animals, again!?" Avery asked, annoyed.
So the group of them got ready and were about to go face off the wolves.
"Does everyone have something to defend themselves with? I have my tactical knife but that's it." Wyatt asked.
"I don't" Riley answered.
"Can she use your hatchet? Wyatt asked Cruze.
"Why?" Cruze replied, confused.
"Well because I thought you would rather use your shotgun, then your hatchet," Wyatt said.
"Oh yeah about that... I might've forgotten it in the Jeep." Cruze sighed. "You mean you forgot your shotgun? Wyatt asked.
"Seriously! You didn't even tell us before now, we could've gone back and gotten it!! What were you thinking!" Avery shouted." I know, I know. I'm sorry, I was just embarrassed to tell you that I had lost one of the most useful things we had, but maybe if you had looked better in the Jeep before we left we could've still had it." Cruze murmured.
Their argument continued like this for a while until...
" You two, need to shut the f**ck up! I've been listening to you two argue at each other for the past five minutes. Avery, we get it that Cruze left his gun, but it was a mistake we all make mistakes. And Cruze, blaming something on someone even though you know it wasn't their freaking fault is not mature at all. Just own what you did. Seriously guys! Like, knock some f**cking sense into your brains! Riley spat.
Cruze surprised by the way Riley talked, she hardly ever swore but this had gotten really fired up. Not wanting to cause another dispute he silently gave his hatchet to Riley, not wanting to cause another argument. He knew it wasn't much of a weapon but he gave it to her anyway and they exited the tent to face the wolves. They immediately took in their surroundings and unfortunately Cruze and Wyatt were correct, there were four snarling, vicious, rabid wolves. At the sense of their unease, the wolves charged at them covering the distance between them with incredible speed. Avery whipped out her bow and shot the wolf closest to her in the chest. To her surprise it kept running, undisturbed by the arrow lodged into its chest. It tackled her to the ground and unfortunately, the wolf had gotten hold of her ankle in his powerful jaws. It was now dragging her around, ignoring her kicks and screams. Fortunately, she wiggled her leg loose and as hard as she could, she kicked the wolf right in his snout. Channelling her inner rage to this rabid animal. It ran off into the safety of the trees, Avery slowly got up and hobbled over to Wyatt who was having trouble of his own.As soon as Cruze had left the tent he had realized that when he gave his only weapon to Riley, he became the only one who was unarmed.
"This was not going to be good," He thought to himself.
Cruze didn't have to make the decision to confront the wolf since the wolf made the decision for him and came barreling towards him. Frozen in his tracks he had no time to think, but in the back of his brain he heard a faint whisper that was barely audible, it said "run". He wanted to do that exact thing but he knew couldn't run, the wolf would easily overtake him so his only chance was to fight it. Clearly having no way to defend himself he picked up a solid thick branch that had fallen from a nearby tree, which wasn't much of weapon but better than his fighting with his bare hands. He started to swing the stick near the wolf's face trying to get the wolf to back off. To his avail, the wolf stayed where it was and didn't move at all, not scared by the fact that a dude was waving a stick at him. If there was a passing onlooker they would've thought the man was crazy waving a stick at a wolf and what was going through his head, but he had no other options. He would have to find a way to beat this animal and fast. He took a quick glance over his shoulder to where his friends were caught up in their own fights. He sighed defeatedly looking at the bunch, trying their hardest to keep going and keep fighting but they were looking tired and ready to give up. He tried to send them positive thoughts but like the many times he tried, he definitely didn't have superpowers. He wished he could just fly far away to another town where he could start a new life and forget all about this. Jumping back into reality he saw Avery who was getting dragged by a wolf's jaws, Riley was barely holding her ground and Wyatt had been bitten in the leg where a pool of blood was forming around his feet. Defeated he looked back to his opponent wishing this was all just a bad dream, he had enough of this. He closed his eyes and wished he was back in his cozy bed waking up to his annoying alarm. And be greeted by a plateful of hot eggs and crispy bacon that Riley had made earlier this morning. But it wasn't a dream and he was now out of answers, he had no clue what to do. He made a silent and quick prayer that they would get out of this alive and to the surprise of the wolf he charged..."Argh!" Wyatt yelled.
The wolf had taken hold of Wyatt's leg and was pressing his powerful teeth into the lower part of Wyatt's calf. Screaming in pain, he started wriggling in despair, knowing he couldn't do anything until the wolf let go of his leg. He tried to think of anything other than the excruciating pain that was shooting up his leg. He could already see a pool of blood that was forming on the ground around him. With a desperate attempt, he landed a punch in the wolf's face, fortunately, it let go of his leg and backed up. He slowly got up using his one leg and both of his arms. He could hardly stand, he already started to feel like he was going to pass out. The world was going black but he fought the urge to just let go and make the pain go away and sink into the abyss. If he did so the wolf would have an easy target, he looked down at his leg where he could almost see his tibia, his leg and ankle were soaked in blood. Tears trickled down his cheeks, down to the dirt. He threw up last night's meal on the ground and then wobbled over to his knife that he had dropped before the wolf had taken hold of him. He slowly bent over, which wasn't a good idea for as soon as he did so the blood rushed to his head and he got very dizzy, very fast. He snatched hold of his tactical knife and turned around to face the snarling wolf. He wobbled close to the wolf hoping to stab the wolf. He knew it was cruel but if he had the choice of him or the wolf dying he would definitely kill the wolf. He checked his leg again which hadn't stopped bleeding, the pain was starting to get unbearable and he knew he would soon pass out because of it. But just as he was about to make a final stand against the wolf, something whistled past his right cheek which barely missed him and impaled the wolf with deadly accuracy. He looked back to see Avery standing there with her bow up to her shoulder, from where she had released the arrow. He couldn't help himself, he couldn't hold them back anymore, the tears started flowing down his cheeks. He cried happy tears and tears of pain. He wobbled over to Avery who was worried about the situation with his leg. He looked up at her and said with a smile on his face " I'm ok" Wyatt said, smiling through the pain.
"Dude look at your leg" Avery laughed back, tears coming down her face. Wyatt sat down beside her, leaned on her shoulder and with that, his vision became blurry, the pain melted away and the world became nothing but a pool of darkness.....Sorry for the wait.
