Icelandic Dialogue

Perseus P.O.V

By the time we reached Reykjavik, I felt like throwing myself off the plane. We made the decision, the worst decision, to take the non-stop flight. Which, if you didn't know, takes 5 hours! 5 hours in the air, in Zeus' territory, non-stop. Let's just say that I was kissing the ground when we finally landed.

When we reached our hotel, we checked in and went to bed immediately, well Zoe left the room for about an hour but she still got some good sleep. After all, we were super tired from our flight and we need to get some rest to start making more solid plans. We had to start apartment hunting as sound as possible since we can't stay in a hotel forever. We also had to go clothes shopping because of the weather here. Which, by the way, sounds frankly hard and tiring. Then we also had to find a way for Zoe to go to school, when I asked her about it she just said she would take care of it. We also kind of had to learn Icelandic, I also mentioned this to Zoe, but all she said was that she had a plan and would tell me tomorrow. That go me genuinely curious.

By the time we woke up the next day, it was already the afternoon. We got ready for the day and had some hotel food for breakfast.

"Are we going apartment hunting first?"

"We are, indeed. We need to find a location that is not too far from Campus."

"Speaking of campus, what did you mean yesterday?"

"Pardon?" She asked a bit confused

"You said you had a plan yesterday when I asked how you were going to get registered in school without an ID or a high school diploma" I explained.

"Oh, I remember now," she said. "Oh, there is indeed an easy solution to all of our issues."

"And that is?"

"Magic and Connections"

" Can you elaborate, please"

" As you know, I was once an immortal. I traveled around the world with the huntresses and met different females everywhere."

"So?"

"That means, Perseus, I have contacts with other female immortals and demigods who might be willing to assist us!" She says in a calm tone, but a bit frustrated with my attitude.

"Oh. That's great" I say " And sorry"

She seemed satisfied with my apology but didn't reply.

"But what about the language?" I asked " I know a lot of people speak English here but I don't want to be held back my my dyslexia and a language barrier. You also said you had a plan for this too."

" Yes I do have a solution and it also involves magic"

" Is magic going to be the solution to all of our problems?" I asked. She paused and made a scrunched-up face like she was thinking of an answer to a difficult question.

"Yes," She deadpanned.

"Ok, make sense," I say, unsurprised " So what do we have to do?"

"Lady Artemis bestowed upon me an unique potion. All we have to do is drink it and we will be capable of communicating at an intermediate level in our chosen language." As she says this, she opens one of her suitcases and pulls out a vial with a silver liquid that was only half full.

"Why only intermediate level?"

" Because you have to learn for yourself," She says. "Magic can't fix everything"

"That is fair. I will make sure to give an offering to Lady Artemis"

Zoe gave me a small smile of appreciation then handed me the potion, prompting me to drink it. I took it from her hand and drank from it then gave it back to her. At first, I didn't feel anything but then my head began to pound. It felt like I had just drunk fire from the Phlegethon then drank two bottles of alcohol. Loads of information and words flooded my head at once. I fell over from the pain in my head as Zoe sat beside me and held me close. After 5 mins of this pain, it finally stopped.

"Do you understand what I'm saying Perseus?"

"Yes I do" My own words sounded strange to my own mouth. "Wow, that is so cool"

"Yes It is isn't," Zoe said with a small smile "Are you ok? I know that it is a painful experience."

"Yeah, I'm fine now, thanks" I then said, " how do you already speak Icelandic?"

" I drank the potion already."

" When did you do that?"

"When you were asleep. I did not want both of us to go throw that pain at once" She said uncomfortably. It was a valid reason but I wish she didn't have to do that alone. I took her hand and gave it a small squeeze but let go after a few seconds. Telling from her reaction, I can tell that she appreciated the gesture of comfort. She cleared her throat awkwardly then said,

"OK, I contacted a few locations that we could see today"

"For apartments?" I asked confused

"Yeah"

"Sure let's head out"

We spent the day walking around and going to different apartment buildings. We stopped for lunch and had plokkfiskur, with is Icelandic fish stew. We also had Skyr Drakkar, a kind of yogurt, as a snack. Surprisingly, we were able to find a pretty sweet place that was an ok distance from campus. We did end up signing the lease for the apartment. During our outing, Zoe made an Iris message to one of her contacts. She had said that they would help with legal documents and a High School diploma. After this was all done, you went back to our hotel, the next day we bought some paint for the apartment. We decided on dark gray in the living room, dark blue in my room and gray wood panel wallpaper in Zoe's room. Our apartment had an open kitchen/living room, 2 bathrooms, a laundry room and a bathroom.

In the span of 6 weeks, we painted and furnished our apartment, bought new clothes and settled into our classes. I still don't really know how Zoe got into the university, but I bet it had something to do with one of her contacts, so I didn't ask.

Zoe and I also spent more time together. I learned that she loved to dance in her free time, I liked to watch her dance. I even asked to draw her once while she dance, it ended up on a wall in our apartment.
