Joe went downstairs rubbing his eyes. He went into the kitchen.
"Hey Mom".
He went to the fridge but then stopped. He turned around.
"Mom"!
He hugged her and she hugged back.
"What are you doing here"?
"What? I can't visit my son"?
Joe gave her a really look.
"Okay, my lease is up and I have no where to go. So I might as well stay here with my baby".
Zack and Sandy came in.
"Hey Carly".
"Hey my cousin's twin kids".
"Still a bad nickname".
"So, what's been happening in you kid's lives"?
"I have a boyfriend", Sandy said.
"I have a sorta girlfriend", Zack said.
"I have a girl that hates me", Joe said.
"What do you mean"?
"I don't wanna talk about it".
"Joe and Jamie like each other but she doesn't want to go out with him".
"Just because I don't wanna talk about it doesn't mean I want anyone else to talk about it".
"Have you talked to her", Carly asked.
"Yes, I've asked her out".
"No, I mean talk. No asking out".
"What do you mean"?
"Joe, her dad died last year. Maybe she doesn't wanna go out with you because she's afraid she'll lose you".
Joe looked down.
"You're right".
They stared at him. He looked back up.
"What"?
"Go talk to her", they yelled in unison.
"Okay"!
He ran out.
In Jamie's room
Joe knocked on the door.
"Come in".
He came in.
"For the last time Joe, I don't wanna go out with you".
"I'm not here to ask you out. Can we talk"?
"Um, sure. What about"?
"Jamie, I like you so much".
"You don't even know me".
"Yeah, you're right. I don't pay attention to anything you do. I don't know that you call your mom every night to make sure she's okay because you love her and you don't want her to feel alone. And I see the way you are with Candace, she looks up to you because you always have time for her. And I know that you may be annoyed with us, you would still drop everything to help us. Because that's just the type of girl you are. I like you".
They stared into each other's eyes. Joe went towards the door.
"Joe".
"Yeah"?
"I like you too", she said blushing.
He smiled.
"I know".
He left. She smiled. Joe went downstairs.
"Hello Joseph".
"Oh God! You scared me...person I don't know. Are you an intruder"?
"No I'm a family friend".
"A family friend? Okay, that totally doesn't sound like something a pervert would say to a child", he said sarcastically.
"I'm Peyton's father, Max".
"Oh, do you want me to go get him"?
"No, he doesn't wanna see me at the moment".
"I'm sorry".
"It's okay. But there is something you can do to help".
"Um, okay"?
"Come with me".
"I may be stupid, but I'm not an idiot".
He scoffed.
"Smart boy".
Max stuck a syringe in him and he passed out. Max smirked and carried him out.
"These kids are going down".
