"You'll need to go to the junkyard for the computer, which should be pretty much out in the open," came James' voice through the earpiece I was wearing.
"Fine," I answered. I pictured the junkyard in my mind, and concentrated. I blinked, and the junkyard was in front of me when I opened my eyes. But, surprise, surprise - there was a very heavily armed guard.
"James," I hissed into the mic, "there's a freaking guard, and he's armed! WITH GUNS!!! You said there wouldn't be any!!"
"No, I said no COPS."
"I'm gonna kill you."
I closed my eyes, and focused on the beaten up car that I saw sitting in the yard, picturing myself inside it. I opened my eyes, and I was standing two feet behind the guard - who was turning around. I quickly ducked behind a mattress, planning my escape. Then, everything went black.
One thing I usually find after I teleport multiple times in a short amount of time, is that I, well... I can't see shit. As my vision began to clear, I saw that nothing had changed. "Abort!" I whispered into the mic frantically, "He's seen me!" I silently crawled away, anticipating an attack. Except for this one.
"Put your hands where I can see 'em, freak," a female voice said from behind me, as the sound of a gun being cocked reached my ears. As I began to comply, I heard James screaming "WHAT HAPPENED" into his mic.
"Follow me," the voice said. Wanting very much to stay alive, I did as I was told. As soon as we were out of the guard's range of vision, there was a soft "pop", and I heard the person say "I saw what you could do back there. Pretty impressive. Oh, and you can turn around now."
I turned around, not knowing what I was supposed to be expecting. What I did see, was not even on the list of things I had considered possibly being behind me. A girl, who looked to be my age, stood in front of me. She had short, green hair, and green eyes to match. She was wearing jeans and a t-shirt with a picture of a cat hanging from a branch, with the caption of "Hang in there!"
"Name's Ashley, but I like to go by Ash," she said. "You got a name?"
"Yeah, uh, its, um... uh..." I managed to stutter.
"Alright, then, uh-um, nice to meet you. Welcome to casa de los Ash," she said, gesturing around the alcove we were standing in with her hand. As she did, I noticed that it kinda did look like a house - albeit, an improvised one. There was a couch, an old mattress, and a bucket of water - which I could only hope that she used for bathing, and not the alternative.
"Um," I said, "my name's Sam, not uh-um. And... you don't... want to run away in fear of the teleporting kid? I mean, everyone else did... And, why did you save me?"
"Well, duh! Didn't you hear the 'pop'? I'm like you! Well, not exactly. but similar."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Look!" she exclaimed. There was another "pop", and a glass of water appeared in her hand, which she promptly drank. My mouth began to open and close, as she said "Oh, how rude of me! Do you want some?" Another glass appeared in her hand with another "pop".
I felt like I was gonna be sick.
