a/n - i read this story in a book called "rich and rare" and i loved it very much so i took some inspiration from and i'm sorry for making "c/n" your friend in most of the stories lol.
word count: 1348 (longest imagine by far !!)

you lived on the beach side. you weren't complaining. you loved the sunset and the smell of the salty ocean in the early morning when you got up to go on your daily jog. school started break about a week ago so you decided to surf for half an hour after your jog.

while you were putting on your gear, you found a crumpled piece of paper buried deep into the sand with its corner sticking out. you pulled it out gently trying not to rip it. you straightened it out and read the cursive words that were on the page.
"i'd be sad and blue,
if not for you,
please understand that i love you,
i will be there in your darkest times,
for i...."
and the words, what seemed like a poem, ended there. you tried to guess the rest of the poem but the words were too faded. you didn't quite know what to think but you put it in your back pack anyways. it seemed romantic ?

you slowly walked back to your house after your surf, holding your surfboard in your right hand, taking in the smell of the ocean that you held dear to your heart. you saw your sister, jess, unloading the groceries from the car.
"hey asshole, you gonna help or what ?" she snarled.
"not if you call me asshole, asshole." you joked, confidently while grabbing one of the plastic bags out of her hand. the sound of a skateboard against hard concrete was getting louder and louder as it approached your house. you took a glance and you knew it was a boy but you didn't know who. the closer the mystery boy got you could make out his face. it was c/n.

c/n was a very close friend of yours. you were both in same school and went to hang out in the sand everyday after school but you both got older and made new friends, you still said hi and all but around a year ago he moved to a private school so you didn't see him around much anymore. you were kind of sad when you realised that you two were drifting away because to be honest, there was feeling of love lurking beneath the feeling of friendship. you shunned out the feelings in the deepest part of your mind but every time you saw something that reminded you of him, those feelings couldn't help but creep back in.

"hey jess, hey y/n. need help with anything ?" he questioned politely while picking up his skateboard.
"hey c/n. we don't see you around much anymore." jess joked, pushing his left shoulder. you stood there awkwardly with your hands by your side hoping not to be noticed by c/n.
"yeah private school isn't very forgiving but y'know school's out so you'll see me." c/n smirked. fuck. that smile. god, you missed it.
"so uh i just came to ask y/n if she'd like to go for a surf tomorrow morning ?"
what ? was he asking you out on a date ? sure, surfing wasn't the most romantic thing to do on a first date and you do it every morning but it sounded like a date. no, no, no. you're overthinking it. you thought to yourself.
"uh, um." your sister nudged your elbow. jess was the only person who knew about our feelings toward him. you didn't tell her but she bugged you to reveal your feelings toward him and you couldn't keep a secret to save your life.
"yes, she would love to !" jess said brightly. you wanted to scream at her but at the same time thank her a million times.
"uh alright that's settled. i'll meet you next to the pier at 8 ?" c/n suggested. you awkwardly nodded at him while he slowly stepped and dropped his skateboard on the ground and skated away.

the night before you went on the supposed "date", you tossed and turned and pondered if it really was a date but even if it weren't, you were still thrilled to have your friend back.

you got dressed, grabbed your surfboard and went to the place c/n had allocated for both of you to meet up. you also grabbed the poem you had found in the sand yesterday. when you were younger, you used to both find things in the sand and trade them and maybe bringing the note could bring a little nostalgia into the conversation.

when you got there, he was already next to the pier sitting down daydreaming and gazing at the ocean while his beautifully c/h/c coloured hair flew in the wind. you walked up to him slowly and greeted him.
"hey, daydreamer." you gave this nickname to him because he was always dozing off in class and conversations and you thought it was an appropriate name for him.
"hey ! haven't been called that in ages." he giggled. you wanted to scream and hold his beautiful face in your hands and kiss him and lay down beside him. you laughed with him in unison.
"yeah. i know, not really around for anyone to call you that." you jokingly added and at that moment you could see his face go sour for a moment.
"shall we go in the water." you added trying not to make the silence go for too long.
"yeah. alright." he smiled politely.

after laughing and smiling about things when you were younger you both headed back to the shore to have a little break. this was the perfect opportunity to show him the note. you both sat down beside each other on the soft sand just inches away.
"this might seem kinda dumb but uh i found this note in the sand yesterday." you said while taking the poem out of your back pack.
"i'm sure it's not dumb, just read it out loud, i wanna hear it."
"alright but if you laugh i will kill you." you threatened playfully. you paused for a bit and looked at him.
"alright, go on."
"ok here it goes.
i'd be sad and blue,
if not for you,
please understand that i love you,
i will be there in your darkest times,
for i...."
"will be your shining light." he added after you finished the poem. you looked at him stunned.
"how do you know this poem ? is it like a famous poem or something ?" you questioned him shocked.
"uh no. i actually wrote it. i know it's kinda stupid." c/n mumbles with his head down.
"not it's not stupid at all. it's beautiful." you ranted.
"um did you write it for fun or for someone special in your life ?" you joked while shimmying towards him. c/n giggles and looks at you for a second.
"yeah um. it's for this girl." it kinda stung you in the heart but whoever he ended up with was going to be a lucky person. "she's shy, but once you get to know her, she's so amazing and funny. i don't see her around anymore but i've been distancing myself away from her so my feelings wouldn't ruin our friendship." this girl sounded a little too familiar. could it be you ? no, no, no, this is merely just a friendship. "i missed her so much." he adds looking straight at you with his c/e/c eyes.
"is this girls name, y/n by any chance ?" you smiled. you were feeling a little too confident. around him, you felt like you could conquer the world.
"hey ! you cracked the riddle !" he cheered. "so does this girl, y/n, like me back ?"
"i'm not sure, you might have to ask her." you giggled sarcastically.
"so y/n ? do you like me back ?" he questioned softly.
"um." you stare at his luscious lips for a second and crash your lips against his. his lips move in sync while he moves his hands next to your jaw. " does that mean yes ?" you both giggle. you lay in the sand beside him with your hands intertwined. your childhood best friend was back as your boyfriend. everything felt right in the world.
