Never Let You Go (3)

CHAPTER NINETEEN

 Yesterday was amazing, our girls here. Olivia and Brynlie they're beautiful, perfect. Today is my birthday, the big 18..officially an adult. Legally I can drink here in England but I won't be doing much of that. Taylor said she's bringing a cake so we can have a small party in my room. My parents, grandparents, brother and Niall's parents and brother are supposed to be here today too. I can't wait to see them.

6:00pm January 13

I slept pretty much all day. Harry was with me all day today because Niall had to get things ready at the house and get our family from the airport.

" Miss McGavin would you like to go up and see your girls?" The nurse asks me

"Yes I would."

"Harry could you help me? I ask

"Sure love do you want to walk or go in a wheelchair? " he asked

"I can walk" I say

Harry helps me slowly out of bed. My gut hurts so bad. I ended up with 80 stiches and 18 staples from my c-section. Harry is letting me lean on him for support to walk and he's dragging the IV pole for me too. I didn't realize how far the NICU was, I'm not too sure I can make it.

"Harry?" I say shakily

"Yea Cass"

"I need a wheelchair" I say tears forming in my eyes.

"Ok we're almost to the nurses station then I can get you a chair" Harry says "Don't cry love"

"It hurts Harry" is all I can manage to say.

We finally make it up to the NICU. The nurse gets me situated in the chair and Harry sits on the couch.

"Would you like to do koala time?" She asks

"What's that?" Harry says

"Well its when you sit with the baby skin to skin. It's great for bonding and dads can do it too" she explains

"Alright sounds great" I say

The nurse gets Brynlie out first and brings herShe strips her to me. She strips her down to her diaper and places her on my bare chest. She asks Harry if he'd like to do the same with Olivia. He hesitates for a moment before agreeing. Harry removed his shirt so the nurse could place Olivia on his chest as well. She wraps a blanket over Harry and Olivia and leaves the room.

"She's beautiful" Harry says

"Yes she is. I have a feeling both of them are going to look like their dad. And be the biggest daddy's girls ever." I say

Harry and both doze off holding the gIrls. when I wake up Niall is standing in front of me aling along with our families.

"Hey gorgeous" Niall says

"Hi guys.. Hurry come look" I say

Dad and Tessa hold the girls for a while before passing them to my grandparents and Niall's parents.

"You did a wonderful job honey" grandpa says

"Thank you but I had help" I say

After spending an hour conversing with everyone Niall asked if we're ready to head downstairs.

"What are we going downstairs for?" I ask

"It's a surprise" Niall says kissing my head

Niall wheels me down to a dark conference room. Everyone goes inside while Niall helps me to the bathroom. When we get back to the room Niall flips on the light and I hear a roar of "Happy Birthday" Taylor did a great job putting together this small surprise party. We have a great time eating dinner and having cake and just chilling out together. Today turned out to be pretty great even though i spent mu 18th birthday in The hospital.

I've been home for 2 weeks but the girls have to stay in the hospital. I feel so bad leaving my babies but the doctor wants them breathing and feeding on their own. Niall and Harry have been so helpful, all of the boys have. I go see my OBGYN today to get my staples out and I'm petrified. Niall and Harry won't be there they have stuff to do in the studio and Taylor and Louis are at his mom's, so it's Zayn and Liam taking me to the doctor.

"Ok love are you ready?" Liam asks

I've gotten myself stuck in bed again. I've been trying for half an hour to roll out of the middle but have been unsuccessful

"No, I'm stuck" I say

"Cassie what have you done?" Liam says laughing

Liam helps slowly roll me to the side of the bed and then pull my legs over the edge and ease me into aa sitting position before helping me stand.

"We're gonna be late, c'mon " Zayn yells up the stairs

"Hang on she just got out of bed" Liam yells back

"What do you mean just got out of bed? Zayn says walking into my room

" I'm sorry I got stuck in the middle of the bed again" I say pouting

Liam and Zayn go down and gather my coat and start the car, while I try to hurry and get dressed. I yell for one of them to help me down the stairs. Finally we are off towards the doctors office.

We make it with two minutes to spare. We wait about ten minutes before the nurse calls me back. Im the only one walking towards her. I turn to look at Zayn and Liam

"Well are you coming?" I ask

"Oh uh yea if you want us to" Zayn says

"Well seeing i need a hand to hold yeah that'd be great" i say

Getting my staples wasn't too bad, uncomfortable but tolerable. Plus I had two of my best friends holding my hands so that helped.

"You did a good job love" Zayn says

"Yeah it looked kind of cool" Liam said

"Thanks, I think" I say

We leave the office and drive over to the hospital. I walk up to the NICU with the boys right behind me. We go back to Olivia and Brynlie's room.

"You guys wanna hold them?" I ask

"Yeah I do" Zayn answers

"Who do you want first?"

"Give me miss Olivia" Zayn says

Liam takes Brynlie and they both sit on the couch, cooing at the girls. Just by looking at the way they interact with them you'd think they were the proud daddy's. Just as I finish snapping some photos of the boys holding the girls the doctor comes in.

"Hi I'm doctor Rhodes. I've been caring for these little beauties for the last week while doctor Beck has been gone" he says

"Hi I'm Cassie I'm their mom and these are their uncle's Zayn and Liam" i say pointing them out

"Nice to meet you all. I have some good and bad news, the good news is that the girls can go home tomorrow if you'd like" Dr Rhodes says

"That's awesome. I'm so ready for them to come home. So what's the bad news?"

"Well Brynlie as you know has a heart murmur. Which is a small hole in the heart, but upon further testing we've found that she has what is called pulmonary stenosis. Which is where the pulmonary valve is very narrow so the heart has to work harder to flow blood through the body" he explains

"So what does that mean?" Zayn asks

"Well we will get her set up to see a pediatric cardiologist so we can keep a close eye on it for now, but she'll be fine she's a fighter." Dr Rhodes says

We leave and go home. Once we get there Harry meets me at the door. He said Niall had to stop somewhere so he should be home in a little while. I tell Harry the news about the girls coming home tomorrow and about Brynlie's heart. I barely spit out the rest of the story before I start crying. Harry grabs me into a huge hug.

"shh, its OK. Brynlie will be alright or else they wouldn't let her come home right?" He says

"I guess that's true" I say

I go to my room and watch TV waiting for Niall to get home. When he does I tell him the same thing I told Harry, he's worried about Bradley too but we won't know anything until her appointment on February 2nd. Until then we'll wait and enjoy the girls being home.
