Autumn
I went back to the group of blank faces. I was hot in both ways but mostly thirsty.
A guy with dark brown hair and dark eyes was drinking water. The water he was holding looked delicious. I took it from him and drunk the rest. That's much better I thought as I slipped in an empty chair, well the chair wasn't empty after all.
A strong grip was pressed firmly to my waist. A girl with short curly hair smiled at me. The sides of her head were shaved and she had a few more piercings than Marilyn.
"Woah baby watch where you put that."
Did I sit on her? I didn't know anymore everything was weird.
"Hey you ok? Here sit."
"What did you do? Is she high or something?"
"I don't know. She seemed fine when we were dancing."
By the voices I heard, I knew Marilyn was talking to Preston but a new voice took the spotlight. She said she would take me to her house. I didn't really know what was happening. My head was pounding, I just want to go home at this point.
* * *
I woke up to someone knocking on my door, or should I say breaking it down.
"She's sleeping!"
"I don't give a damn. I need my shit."
Why were there people in my apartment? I turned over and felt the soft silky sheets smoothly washed over my body. This is not my bed. I sat up quickly, too quickly. My head was pounding.
"Hey girl, wake the hell up."
"Stop being so loud."
"You woke her up. Kane you know she has a hangover or something."
"Finally if you didn't open it I would have kicked it down."
I believed him when he said that. A guy who I think I remember from the bar shoved me out the way. Behind him stood was a short brunet with big brown eyes.
"Hi, sorry about all this. This might be really confusing for you. I'm Ella and this is my cousin Kane. You weren't feeling well so I decided to take you home with me. This is usually Kane's room, the other two guest bedrooms are a bit crappy so you took his room."
"See all this wouldn't have happened if you would have slept with me," The girl I remembered from last not said.
"Hey, you didn't even give her meds for the headache?"
"Oh no, was I supposed to?"
"Yes you idiot. You brought her home so you supposed to look after her."
"Well, I never did this before. I wanted you to stay to help me."
"I could have stayed and helped." Levi kept chiming in but no one paid her any attention.
This doesn't matter. I wanted to go home. "Thank you, I want to go home now please."
"Oh ok maybe you should stay until you are better."
"I will get plenty of rest when I'm home, please." I smiled hoping she would understand. She finally agreed and Levi drove me home.
Before we left Ella asked, "Did Preston... drug you?"
I told her no, I don't know Preston but I was certain he didn't drug me. He isn't capable of that. Maybe he was capable of other things but not that.
"Oh" was all she said.
I opened the door. I wanted to throw up as soon as I got inside but my legs went weak. The only thing I remembered was Preston.
"Preston, what are you doing here?"
"Are you sleeptalking or awake?"
"What?"
"You just asked why was I here."
"I did?"
"Yea."
"Well why are you here and where am I?"
"You are in your apartment."
"How did you get in?"
"Your key."
"You people are either really nice or really weird."
"Sorta both I guess. When you got to Ella's house Levi helped you throw up whatever made you sick. She called me and said you passed out. I can't figure out why it's either you moving too much or it's not all out. You threw up a bit more and slept for a few hours and how we are here. I would have left but you dying doesn't look well for this place."
"Oh so 'this place' was on your mind and not me?"
"Of course you were on my mind, all damn night. There's water and medicine for you right there. Feel better alright?
"Yea thanks."
He left my room before I could ask him if anyone knew who drugged me. My first day here went well, besides me getting drugged. I reached for my purse that was placed on my nightstand beside my bed. I got my phone out and found a piece of paper with numbers on it folded at the bottom of my purse. I didn't remember putting paper in my pocket.
The inside of the paper read, "Call me girl. I didn't get a chance to get your number or see if you are ok. Call me around eight that' sts when I'm off. Btw this is Marilyn."
I was lonely and wanted company. Also I wanted a reason to order pizza and watch a new action movie everyone was talking about. When the time came I called her. She answered with a "Howdy doodie". I didn't know what that was about.
"What," I asked holding in a laugh. The fact that it sounded so sincere made it so funny.
"Sorry, I get that from Ella. Remember her, the girl that took you to her big ass house that's like an hour or more away."
"Yea, I remember her."
"Anyway are you ok? I heard you were drugged. If it was Preston we can press charges."
"It wasn't him."
"Ok good I don't want to take him away from the kids."
Kids? Did he have kids? I felt it was too personal so I didn't say anything about it. "Oh, well you want to come over. I will order pizza and I have sodas."
"No, this will probably turn into a thing, if it becomes a thing we need wine, not soda. I will bring wine and popcorn. I know the perfect pizza place. I'll text you the number. I'll be over in about thirty ok."
"Yeah ok."
