"I'm pregnant."

You felt like you had been waiting for this moment forever. It had been so long, so many years of struggles and heartache. You and your husband Minoru had been trying to have a baby for over two years now, only to be met with disappointment every month when you bled. Fertility treatment was difficult with Minoru's schedule and more often than not they were not together at the right time of the month.

You were only a day late, not feeling any symptoms, but you went through your routine anyways, fully expecting to be disappointed. After laying the stick down on the counter you had left to the kitchen, cleaning up after breakfast and puttering around. You were in no hurry to return to disappointment.

When you did look at the little white stick you were sure you were hallucinating, your mind making you see what you really wanted to see and not what was actually there. Frantically grabbing the stick you had held it so close to your eyes it was blurry, having to take a deep breath to calm yourself and pull it away for a better look. There they were two lines. One was very faint for sure, but it was there. Breathing heavily you dropped to your knees digging through the bathroom counter and pulling out the box of digital tests. You forced yourself to pee, squealing when the screen read pregnant before you even set it on the counter.

Heart racing you rushed to the kitchen phone, calling your fertility doctor who asked you to come in immediately to confirm your hopes. As you drove you couldn't stop the stupid smile on your face. You were absolutely over the moon with joy, praying that everything went smoothly and that you would soon have a baby in your arms.

Maybe a little Minoru you mused, a fierce little boy with a fiery temper and a mean streak a mile wide. Or a pretty little girl who would be the apple of her daddy's eye, and god help any boy who so much as looked at her wrong. Pulling into your doctor's office parking lot you took a deep breath to steady your nerves before heading into the building.

Thirty minutes later you strolled out into the sunshine with a smile plastered on your face. They had confirmed you were pregnant, maybe 5 weeks along by their guesstimate. You were torn between calling Minoru and screaming the news at him and doing something special to make the announcement. He hid it well, but you knew the disappointment of you not getting pregnant weighed heavily on his mind. You knew he felt like a failure, like it was his fault. The doctor had found nothing wrong with either of you, nothing to prevent a pregnancy and were baffled as to why you hadn't fallen pregnant. You knew then that a phone call was not the way you wanted to go. You wanted to see the expression on his face when you told him. You wanted to be wrapped in his arms and his hand pressed against your still flat stomach. He would be home in a few days, and you would be ready then.

Three days later you sat anxiously on the couch, foot tapping a mile a minute as you waited for your love to arrive home. When you heard his keys in the door you shot to your feet, rushing to wrap your arms around him the second he was in the door. Breathing deeply you inhaled his familiar, comforting scent. Nothing said home like Minoru. He chuckled deeply pulling you tighter to his body and pressing a kiss first to your hair before tilting your lips up to meet his.

"I missed you, my heart." He murmured, reveling in the feeling of you being in his embrace again. It got harder and harder every time he left you.

"I missed you too Minoru." You said, your voice muffled by his chest. "So much." Eager to tell your news you pulled from his arms and smiled up at him. "I have something for you."

Leading him over to the couch you made him sit down and wait while you ran to the bedroom while he waited with an indulgent smile. It wasn't out of the ordinary for you to get him something upon his return, loving to spoil him as much as he did you. Minoru watched you approach him with a little black and white striped bag, placing it on his lap and sitting down, practically bouncing in excitement.

Minoru pulled out the loads of tissue paper until he found a black shirt folded in the bottom of the bag. With an arched eyebrow he pulled out the shirt and shook it open reading the message that simply said Daddy in stark white lettering. You smiled as Minoru turned to you looking from your face to the shirt and back again, a sheen of tears in his eyes.

"Are you..." he stopped as his voice broke. "For sure? You're pregnant?"

"I'm pregnant," You confirmed laughing as the biggest smile you had ever seen on his face broke out and he jumped to his feet, pulling you into his arms and hugging you to his body. "Thank you my angel. I love you so much. Thank you for giving me this gift."

"No thank you Minoru." You responded rising to kiss his lips. "I love you so much."
