( Silver Ryans, black hair, silver at the roots, tied back in a braid, bright orange Camp Half-Blood tee, blue jeans, bow slung around shoulder, sword around waist, green sneakers.)
The thing crashed through the underbrush, getting closer by the second. I kept on running. My legs burned, but I knew that if I stopped, the thing would kill me. I didn't exactly know what it was, but I had no desire to find out. Part of my brain wanted to know why it was chasing me. And that was my downfall. Literally. My foot banged into a rock and I toppled.
"Growwwwwwwllllllll!" Something sounded funny. I turned around to see the world's ugliest and possibly the world's fattest black panther. There was an oddly shaped hump that started on the back of its neck. I thought for a second. Wait, a minute. There were no panthers in the forest. I mean, there were plenty of bizarre creatures, but never once a panther!
The panther began to giggle but made no mouth movements. A puzzle piece clicked in my brain. "Thats not funny, guys!" I shouted. Leo pushed off the black blanket he was wearing and burst into full-blown laughter.
"That was the greatest!" Leo managed to fit the words in between breaths, "Your face was priceless!"
The panther frowned and changed. Soon in its place stood a very grumpy looking Frank Zhang. "Never doing that again!" he mumbled. Frank walked over and helped me up. Leo finally stopped the laghter.
"Come on, lets get back!" I said, "Capture the flag is tonight, and I intend to be there!" My friends muttered their agreement and we started off twards the camp; Leo still smiling and Frank's scowl gone.
(The sky is dark with clouds hanging over head. The forest is silent)
The horn bellowed and hundreds of battle ready demigods ran into the forest, most of them yelling. We had the Athena, Posidon, Hermes, and Hades (Or Pluto, i guess, what ever you want to call it) cabin on our sides. I tried to get the Hephaestus cabin as well but Rider Willams still had a grudge with Lyla Fischer for that prank she pulled on him last month. We stationed our selves next to the flag. "Alright!" Aurora (An Athena camper) called, " The Apollo, seven Hermes, nine Athena, Hazel and Nico defend the flag!" We had allready gone over who was going to defend and offend. Conner Stoll fidgeted excitedly. He was protraying what we were all feeling.
The offense group ran off, holding their wepons high. The Hermes cabin had stolen some pretty cool attire from the Hephaestsus cabin yesterday.
Now came the hard part, waiting. I took in every detail, every rustle of the leaves. Occasionally, a scout would go out and check if someone was near. The two sent didnt come back. That wasnt supposed to happen. The sounds of battle raged somewhere in the forest. At first, we thought it was a joke; some one had traded dessert privilges to scare us and get the flag. A howl split through the air. "Its a wolf spider!" Cato Frode, another Athena camper (he was new) shreaked.
I gripped my sword harder while other campers attempted to calm Cato down and decide who would go check it out. My gut was telling me to go. I really didnt want to do that. I mean, come on! Who does that? "I go check it out!" I attempted to say bravely. Appearently me. By choice of rock, paper, sizzors, Tallis Vivek (a Hermes camper) was to go with me. Before we departed, I made it clear that is any of this was a prank, well, lets just say it would not be pretty.
Now, before we go on with the rest of the story, I have a letter of forewarning. DO NOT and I repeat, DO NOT do this at home! It doesnt matter if you have a partner. If you hear a weird sound dont go towards it. Got it? Okay.
We slowly trekked through the forest, scanning each square inch. There was no sign of the creature that could have made the noise. The darkness was deafining. No signs of the other campers. Then a twig snapped to my right. Someone cursed and Tallis screamed.
"Sorry," She muttered "That scared me." We both were quiet creeping in the direction from which the sound came from. Suddenly, something whizzed passed my ear and emmbedded it self in a tree. I turned around as quick as I could and raised my sword. A bulky grey mass melted from the shadows and into view. From what I could see, he was armed to the teeth. No, not literally. That would be weird.
I was very sure muscle-rock thingies were not on the list of monsters in the forest. I was also very sure that people wern't supposed to get attacked during a game of capture the flag. The last time that happened, I was 12 and just starting out. Luckly, Chiron was there to ensure no one got too hurt.
"We can take him!" I said to Tallis. "Its 2-1." Of course, thats where I jinxed it. Four more Muscle-rocks steped out behind the trees. How they fit, I have no idea. They surrounded us making a wall so we couldnt escape. I didnt want to get close to those things so I sheathed my sword and drew my bow.
My hand drew back, and I shot the arrow, testing how fast they would react. Turns out, really fast. The monster caught the arrow and threw it back. I just had time to dodge so the arrow wouldnt hit anything. It did, however, graze my allready fraying shirt. Danget. My shirt was so old, I would have to buy a new one, like, tomarrow.
"Hey!" I shouted "Not cool!" This is when the fighting broke out. As fast as I could,(which is fast) I shot arrows left and right, whie Tallis engaged them one on one. The monsters kept up so I had to swich to my sword due to lack of arrows. For every hit we gave them, the monsters responded with six. We were getting banged up. There was no way we could keep this up for much longer.
Finially, a meaty hand slapped a wet cloth across my mouth. A sickly sweet taste filled my mouth, and my eyesight dimmed. I grabbed at the arm, but to no use. I could feel my grip slacken and the world faded into blackness.
Oh my goodness! That took so long! Im really sorry, but can we just celebrate for a minute: 1112 words! My longest chapter in anything i've written! I find it easier to write in 1st person so thats what I'm gonna do for silver's point of view. Also I will be putting little bits of background info in perentisis (excuse me for bad spelling), and if you are confused about the chapter above, Tallis is still conscious whenever they light leap, then go down to exile. They really just needed Silver. I know, HUGE plot hole for the light leaping thingie. I just had to get the chapter out.
