Marinette wakes up happy because it is Thanksgiving Day!  She does not think the day could get any better. Her boyfriend, Kim is supposed to come over to meet her parents.  Perhaps, he will finally propose to her!  She sure hopes so because they have dated for two years now.  It is about time he asked her.

She prepares for the day and goes to help her mother get things ready for the meal. She anxiously awaits Kim's arrival.  She knows he should be here at any moment now. She can not wait to see him.

Marinette gets a phone call from Kim that says, he is stuck in traffic and will be a bit late. She tells her parents, and her father nods his head. Her mother reheats the food.

"Mother, I am sure he just got off work late and got stuck on a busy road somewhere that is all," Marinette says.

Two hours later, Kim arrives for lunchtime, and the food is cold.

"We did make sure to reheat it twice," Marinette's mother says.

"Mother, you are embarrassing him!" Marinette says.

"Dear, try to be civil, it is Thanksgiving!" Her father remarks.

After the meal, Kim says, "I need to speak with Marinette privately because it is rather urgent."

"Sure, you go right ahead, dear," Sabine says.

"Go on, you two!" Tom says. He helps Sabine in the kitchen with the dishes.

Marinette goes on a walk with Kim and thinks nothing could go wrong. Little does she know her world is about to crash in on her.

"Marinette, I have to go away on business for six months, in Peru,"  Kim says.

"Peru, but that is so far away!" Marinette says.

"I know but is a great opportunity for me," Kim states.

"What about us? " Marinette asks

"Marinette, I am sorry, but this is just one opportunity I can not pass up," Kim says.

"Well, I will be sure to keep in touch then," Marinette says. She is nineteen at the time and Kim is twenty.

"Keep in touch, now Marinette, how do I put this lightly?" Kim says.

"What do you mean?" Marinette asks.

"I will be gone on this trip for six months, but I will not be alone. My business partner, Alix will be alone with me for the trip." Kim explains.

"So, what does she have to do with anything?" Marinette blurts out as she feels her eyes water.

"A lot, I am sure, you see I was going to wait until later to tell you, but I have been seeing Alix on the side.  I am afraid, you and I are just not meant to be, so I am dumping you." Kim announces. He says it with his voice void of emotion as it if is no big deal.

"What?  You have been cheating on me and you are breaking up with me for her?" Marinette says.

"Yes, that is it, sweetie," Kim says.

"Do not ever call me sweetie again!" Marinette yells at him. She also removes the earrings he gave her for a birthday present earlier that year and drops them in the snow. She runs back to the house, goes straight to her room and flops on her bed. She sobs and sobs because she can not believe it.  Her boyfriend left her for someone else and her life is over.
