You and Carter have been best friends since the 3rd grade when you dropped your pencil box before recess and he stayed in and helped you pick up all your pencils. when you heard about him and Maggie dating you were kinda sad, you've had a crush on him since the 9th grade, but of course being his best friend you were supportive of their relationship. you had gotten a call from Carter at around 2:30 in the morning and of course you answered it right away. He was crying uncontrollably, and could barely speak; all you said was 'I'm on my way'. you got in your car and drove to his house, it was a mess and so was he. you walked in his room and saw him in his bed crying, and when he saw you he grabbed you and pulled him into his bed and you just held him without even asking, and you stayed that way until you both fell asleep. when you woke up, you were in his arms nuzzling your head into his chest. when you had woken up he said "good morning sunshine". he had red puffyish eyes, and tear stains but you still thought he was the cutest guy in the world. you kissed his cheek and asked him what was wrong.
he said "Maggie cheated on me with some movie star, and yesterday she came over and told me, and then she took her things and just left."
"oh my god Carter, I'm so sorry. that is so terrible of her! I'm always here for you, and you can call me whenever you need"
"thank you (y/n) it means a lot. do you think you could stay with me for a few days?"
"of course!"
you stayed at Carters house for a week, when one day you were on your way home from the mall because Carter said you needed to come home ASAP! you walked in the door and saw bright red rose petals scattered all around the floor leading to the dining room, where Carter awaited you.
"what's this?" you ask
"oh, it's nothing. I just thought I would make dinner for the most amazing and beautiful girl in the world"
"aww, thank you so much Carter, it's so perfect!"
"just like you. Happy Birthday y/n"
midway through your dinner Carter grabbed your hand and said
"look y/n, I can't keep hiding this, but I like you a lot! and even when I was dating Maggie. truth is, I've liked you ever since we were in 10th grade and you helped me ace that science test, and when we studied for the SAT's for days and days, and even though recently we haven't been able to hang out because of all my traveling and meet ups, but I just need to tell you how much I love you. you are so beautiful, and everything about you is perfect, the way you look when you wake up, and the cute nose crinkle you do when you are confused, and the silly jokes you make that don't even make sense, and how you can make me smile just by walking in the room. and I guess what I'm trying to say is, will you be my girlfriend?"
"oh my god Carter!"
"I'm sorry, that was stupid of me, I shouldn't have a---"
"no no no, you're not stupid at all!! of course I will be your girlfriend, I would love to!"
"YES! I love you so much y/n"
