So I said I wouldn't make these kinds of rants anymore, but I need to say something rather important.

Unless it's an alternate timeline where the parents were never said to have died, don't make the parents be alive as a twist.

Yes, it's miserable that the Baudelaires and the Quagmires are dead before we know hardly anything about them. However, think for a moment.

If they were revealed to be alive in canon, the only logical outcome of that reunion would be a brief bit of happiness before their children blew up in anger about where they've been and why they never came to find them.

"What if they had to stay in hiding because V-"

NO. V.F.D. be DAMNED, no self respecting parents would EVER allow their children to go through the things they did without intervening!

Duncan and Isadora living at that Hell-hole Prufrock for over a year, where they are abused and bullied for simply existing, and you think that Karen Quagmire would just LET that shit happen? Uh no! She'd be there as fast as humanly possible; there would be hands and they would be thrown! She'd break Nero's violin in half by hitting him over the fucking head with it! And all Quinten would be able to do is watch and keep Duncan and Isadora out of the way! Quigley living separate from his siblings for that fucking long and you think that Karen wouldn't try to find whoever was watching over him so she can get him back? I don't think so! She'd call every member of the organization twice until someone had fucking answers and then fucking rush to find him!

You think that Beatrice Baudelaire would LET her children live with Count Olaf, and just LET him try to MARRY HER DAUGHTER and just hope that someone else stops him?! Are you serious? Hell no she wouldn't! She'd be there instantly to stop him herself! She'd beat the hell out of him in front of the entire audience! Bertrand would be watching in awe and loving every minute of it!

You've heard the expression "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned?" Well especially if she's a mother!

Do you see why I bring this up? Yeah of course you do. Saying that they would ignore these things happening makes them look like really shitty parents! The idea that they would act this ignorant is really insulting to them as parents! We're supposed to believe that they're good parents who raised their kids right then you should also believe that they would absolutely do something about their kids being in trouble!

It's simply irritating that I have to say these things because I feel horrible having to do it! ☹ I feel like such an ASSHOLE when I have to be the person who says "I don't want/like the parents to be alive." And I hope the above explanation tells you why.

If you're going to write this twist of the parents being alive the whole time: please, think about what you are implying before you go to write it. As writers, we always need to think through our implications, even in a fanfic.
