Light flooded Skyra's bedroom and her eyes started to flicker open. She bolted upright, ran to the treetop veranda and looked at the sunrise. Skyra had around three hours till she had to enter the portal. She wasn't ready for this. Two hours to spare...could do anything in that time...
Skyra ran outside and saddled up Kyara. Then Skyra sat on Kyara, leaned down so her mouth was beside Kyara's ear and whispered "Fly!"
Kyara's eyes widened then in one swift move she outstretched her wings, flicked her tail and in a blink of an eye she was soaring through the air.
Skyra let out a sigh of relief and pulled her fingers through her knotted light brown hair. It was going to be a long day and she would miss Kyara so much. And James...and Indigo and her parents! Skyra was already feeling homesick even though she hadn't left yet. No! What was she thinking! It was only going to be a couple of days...a week at maximum.
Kyara seemed to sense Skyra's bad mood and the dragon suddenly flew upside down as Skyra screamed happily. Girl and her dragon flew off into the distance without a care in the world.

She was late. Skyra flew into the dragon pen, on Kyara, unsaddled her and ran into the house.
Her mother was waiting for her. "Ok, I'm not going to give you the talk because you are going to be late. What a surprise!" She said sarcastically. "Anyway..Here is your bag. You can thank me later. Now go...quickly!"
Skyra jumped into action grabbed her bag and ran but stopped when her mother said "Skyra...Remember, I love you!"
Skyra ran back to her mother and embraced her in a tight hug, then quickly ran away again towards the Great Hall.

Her father greated her at the entry of The Great Hall and patted her on the back. "You will be fine Skyra. Ready?"
Skyra took a deep breath "Ready."
Together father and daughter opened the large doors and the crowd cheered and threw flowers in the air. As Skyra walked towards the stage she waved to Indigo and received a thumbs up. Skyra hugged James and continued walking.
She reached the stage and the crowd silenced. The King spoke. "Today is the day!"
The crowd cheered even louder until the King silenced them with a wave of his hand.
"We must not waste time, so without further a do, let us begin. Skyra step forward. Do you Skyra Jones promise to do whatever you can to protect and train this human?"
"Yes."
"Now I shall place this necklace around your neck. It will lead you to the human. Turn the pendant in the necklace twice when you are ready to come home and it will open the portal where it is about to be opened. Now are you ready?"
"Yes"
"Gorma, please open the portal."
Gorma walked to the back of the stage and started humming and whispering various words. A shining blue dot levitated above the stage, then as Gorma kept chanting the dot spiralled into a two metre circle.
It was time.
Skyra slinged her backpack over her shoulder and faced the crowd. She smiled a real, genuine smile, then in one swift movement flicked her head around and ran into the portal, disappearing.
