"That's not what I mean and you know it." for @okbecka. Hope you like it :)
"That's not what I meant and you know it."
"What did you mean then?" Harry narrows his eyes at his eldest, Amelia. "Because to me it really sounded like you called me old and foolish."
Amelia sighs, putting a hand on the kitchen island. "No, Dad, I didn't. But it's just a bit weird to me that I'm gonna have another sibling. I'm nineteen, I'm legally an adult. My classmate got married like a month ago. My friends' parents are retiring."
"Amelia, that's not my concern," Harry says sincerely. "We wanted a baby so we're having one. Life is short and we're not getting any younger. You're in college already."
"Exactly, I'm in college," Amelia huffs and throws a hand up. "You and Dad should be enjoying that you'll have an empty home soon, not have another small kid. I'm just looking out for you two, really. You're my parents and I care about you."
"Honey," Harry sighs and stops cutting up vegetables, looking at his daughter. "You don't have to worry about us. We have already raised three kids, we'll be fine with a fourth one. When you were born, I was just twenty-five. And I'm only forty-four now. My friend Kristin had her first-born at forty-seven."
"Okay, I couldn't possibly care less about your friend Kristin," Amelia scoffs. "Last time I was home, you and Dad were talking about buying a cabin so you can enjoy weekends alone there, not planning a baby."
"Oh my god," Harry exclaims. "Why are you so worked up about this? I could've divorced your Father a few years ago and we would've gotten remarried and now you would've had a bunch of toddler step-siblings. Is that what you wanted?"
"I'm mad that you didn't tell me!" Amelia reveals eventually, her shoulders dropping. "Just because I'm on the West Coast at college doesn't mean I'm not a part of this family anymore. You didn't tell me, Dad. Fuck, you told me about it ten minutes before you picked me up at the airport. I thought that you would trust me with it."
"Honey," Harry starts, his voice low.
"No, Dad, okay, I get it," Amelia sighs and sits down on one of the barstools behind the kitchen counter. "You both still see me as a kid but for fuck's sake, Mikaela and Wes knew. Sure, they still live here so it would've been impossible to keep it from them but I'm your daughter too."
"Milly, listen to me," Harry sighs softly, walking around the counter so he can sit next to Amelia. "We wanted to tell you. But I honestly didn't want to worry you. I wasn't even sure the baby would survive the first-trimester. You're right, I'm not the youngest, or I'm old, as you'd say, and it was high-risk. You would've been stressing about this and I didn't want to distract you from college. It was your first semester ever at college, you needed to focus. I never intended to keep this from you."
Amelia looks at Harry for a while before dropping her eyes. She's their only child that genuinely looks like both of them. The whole family has been bickering who she looks like the most but it's impossible to tell.
"Are you okay now?" Amelia asks eventually.
Harry smiles a little, grabbing Amelia's hand on the countertop. "I'm more than fine. Healthy as a fish. She's due in the beginning of April."
"Another girl?" Amelia lets out a little laugh. "Wes must be pissed off."
"Just a little bit," Harry chuckles. "He said that a brother fourteen years younger than him would've been useless either way."
The front door opens then and Amelie sees her younger siblings come in, followed by her other Dad.
"Oh my god, you bitch," Mikeala screams as she spots Amelia sitting next to Harry. "You were supposed to come next week!"
