Introduction.
Hi. My name is Cole sanders. I'm eighteen years old and people see me as the loner kind of guy, the bad boy type. But also smart. Though it was true, I didn't really care what other people thought of me.
The only person who didn't see me like that is Sam. Sam Carter, she was the only one who didn't judge me by just looking at me but she wanted to know me before she did. She wanted to know for sure if I was the person everyone said and thought I am.
At first I thought she was just another new girl in town. So I ignored her the first time she followed me home.
And that's where I'll start my story. The day I met a girl I never thought in the beginning would matter so much to me in the end.
~
"Why are you following me?" I asked as I turned around to see a girl at about 5'2", with black hair and light brown eyes.
"So I could prove them wrong about you." She said as if it were normal to follow a guy you barley know to his house.
"Who is 'them'?" I asked her with knitted eyebrows and made air quotes on them.
"You don't know!?" She stated as if I was supposed to know.
"That's why I'm asking little girl." I said as I took a step closer to her and slightly bowed my head down to meet her eyes.
"I am not a little girl!" She shouted and it caused a few people walking to turn their heads and looked at us like we were crazy.
"Don't shout." I said, almost shouting at her.
"Fine." She huffed as she crossed her arms over her chest and looked away.
"Whatever." Is all I said and I turned to continue on my way home.
"Wait!" She said when she realized that I wasn't in front of her anymore. And that took her more or less two minutes. By that I was already a few blocks away from her.
I thought she finally left me alone until I heard her trying to catch up with me. Then I picked up my pace but I didn't want to look like I was running from the police so I settled on taking larger steps.
"Hey! Hey you! Wait up!" I heard her shout at me.
I sighed and continued to ignore the black haired girl tailing me.
Of all times I had to get my bike fixed in the shop, this new girl shows up. I was having a normal day until this girl showed up and everyone was curious about her. I had to admit, she looked beautiful but she wasn't the type of girl I was after. And neither was any girl in our town. They all were stuck up or too scared to even talk to me. They all thought I was the bad boy that everyone should steer clear away from.
"Hey! I thought I told you to wait?!" She said as she rested her hand on my shoulder causing me to stop dead in my tracks.
"Yeah, you did." I said as I turned to face her again.
This time she was a bit tired and her face was tinted pink from the jogging she did.
This girl is way out of shape. It seems like she would collapse at any moment.
"So-so..." she said as she tried to get her breathing back to normal.
"So what?" I said as I stuffed my left hand in my jeans' pocket.
"So why d-didn't you?" she asked as she stood back up straight and looked at me straight in the eye.
"No one said I had to." I said with a bored expression.
"Why are you so....!!!" She said as she made her hands into fists and pursed her lips in a flat line.
"So what? New girl." I said as I took a step towards her.
"So... unsociable?" she said in a more calmed tone and she took a step towards me as well.
I looked at her skeptically.
"Isn't it obvious?" I said stared at her.
"..."
She didn't say anything but she just stared and me and then nodded. As if she understood why was I like this.
"So... now that you know why, leave me alone." I said and turned around to walk back home.
~
After that, I never looked back but she was still following me. I didn't have to turn around to know because she would ask random question every after 5 minutes of walking.
"Hey, I have a question."
She said as she walked right behind me. I was just glad that she felt that I don't want her near me. So she kept her distance behind me. 3 steps away to be precise.
"..."
I didn't say anything but I knew she would ask anyway with or without my response.
"Why does everybody think and say that you're someone not be trusted?"
I heard her say as if it were a normal thing to ask and then I suddenly stopped dead in my tracks. I felt the anger bubble up inside of me.
" And that I should stay far away from you." She asked and then only a second later, she bumped into my back.
I guess she wasn't looking where she was going since she did. And then I turned to face her.
The expression I had on my face would usually send the person I was looking at, run straight for the hills. But she just raised her eyebrows at me.
"What?" She asked after I gave up on trying to get her to leave me alone.
"Why are you still here?" I asked in annoyed voice as I stared at her.
"I just wanted to prove them wrong." she said again.
"Who the hell are you trying to prove?!" I fired at her.
I was getting more and more irritated with her presence.
"Them. Every single person who told me that I should stay away from you and not even talk to you. Even when I really wanted to. And they just kept on holding me back from even getting a meter away from you." She said it so calmly, as if she was talking to five year old.
"Why? Why me? Why of all people did you choose me?" I asked and sighed deeply.
"I have no idea why, but no one should be treated as if they were a disease that everyone must avoid." She said as she took another step towards me and now our noses were only inch away from touching.
"..."
I didn't say anything but I just shooked my head at her and looked her eyes and I could see concern, sadness, and hope. And I sighed inwardly as she began to move her head closer. And closer. And closer.
"Who are you?" I asked before she would do something that I was sure would regret the moment she realized it.
"So-Sorry." She stuttered out and took a step back from me.
Then she looked at the ground and after a second she looked back up to me in the eyes.
"I'm Sam Carter."
