Footsteps bounding up the stairs made the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end, dread shooting through your veins as you leaned over the banister and confirmed your fears.

Dashing into the apartment, you quickly bolted the door and started pushing pieces of furniture against it.

"Billy, We have company!" You shouted, trying not to panic when the footsteps of the cops drew closer and closer. You were sure they were only a few floors below now.

Billy ran into the main room where you were still trying to block the entrance, face red from anger and frustration. "I can't fucking find it anywhere."

"Fucking hell." You groaned, furious you couldn't take back what was yours. A few days ago, a pretty ring you'd bought from a cheap market was stolen when news got out that it was priceless. Billy had been certain on who it was, hence why you were searching the guy's apartment.

"Make sure they don't get in. I'm going to check for loose floorboards." You commanded your partner, starting to check the women floor as soon as he sent you an approving nod.

"Open up!" A voice screamed from the hallway, pounding on the door loudly. Billy kept wedging more and more objects under the door, trying desperately to not let them get in.

He struggled against their attempted rams to break down the front door and sent you a worrying glance. "Babe, you're going to have to hurry up."

You didn't reply, just kept searching until you found a floorboard that could lift. Flinging it across the room, you reached into the hole and pulled out your ring. "Got it!"

Billy's face lit up and he bolted away from the door, making sure you were trailing closely behind as he smashed open the balcony doors.

You quickly climbed up the ladder to the roof, letting out a sigh of relief when Billy joined you shortly after. "Where to now?"

"Follow me." Billy grinned, running across the roof when the sound of the cops voices entered the outdoors. You just smirked and followed his lead, leaping to another rooftop and climbing down its fire escape.

Billy hailed down a cab and you both dived in, giving the driver your address. Both of your hearts were thudding from the excitement and adrenaline rush you'd just experienced, and you chuckled at all of the cop cars lined up against the buildings entrance.

"We did it." You whispered as you drove straight past them all, turning your attention back to the ring. Placing it back into your finger, you hummed with satisfaction, happy it was back where it belonged.

Billy shifted closer to you and placed his hand on your thigh, admiring the ring you loved so much. "I know we only did a heist last week, but this one actually meant something, and I'm so happy I got to do it with you."

You smiled and stared up into his eyes, placing your hand on his cheek. Your thumb softly grazed his bottom lip as he watched you in awe. "Couldn't wish for a better partner."

Billy's smile mirrored yours as he kissed you softly, ignoring the irritated coughs from the cab driver when he deepened it. His hand slid up your shirt and onto the bare skin of your back, making you shiver from the coldness of his palms. Hesitantly, you pulled away.

"We're almost home, can't you wait two minutes?" You whispered into his ear. Billy dropped his head into your neck in defeat, but not without leaving a couple of sloppy kisses against the skin.

As soon as the vehicle came to a stop, Billy practically threw the money at the driver, shouting "keep the change" before he grabbed your hand and ran into your apartment building with you giggling in tow.
