"Do you accept the job?"
"Of course."
Hyungsik had called in two of the best guards that the castle has, Kim Taehyung and Jeon Jungkook, they were the ones who were entrusted to return the prince to the kingdom safely.
"Thank you. The kingdom of Azharei honors you for taking on this great task." The guards lowered themselves as the king touched each their heads and gave them each a blessing. "May your journey to and fro the land be swift, safe, and secure. May nothing come between you and bringing my son back. May you have the strength and the will to complete your task efficiently."
The guards nodded after the blessing. The king raised his hands off of their heads and wished them well one last time before swimming away.
"Welp, we're off tomorrow, how do you feel?" Taehyung asked the younger guard, who was trying to get his head together.
"Well, I'm certainly nervous if that's what you're asking," he starts to swim off and Taehyung follows him in disbelief.
"Oh come on! You're the general's son! How are you nervous?"
"That's exactly why I'm nervous, Tae!" He began to explain. "My dad is the general, what if I mess up somehow? That'll not only dampen my reputation but it'll be reflected on my dad as well!"
"You're not gonna mess up, Guppy," Taehyung reassured him. "If anything, I'd be the one to mess up. You're basically perfect on the field. And you're only 17!"
"Don't call me that, and I've never been on land before, nor have I ever had such a big assignment, I can't believe they entrusted this on us, and only us at that!" They approached the guards' living quarters and stopped at Jungkook's room.
The guards' quarters were placed at the right of the palace. Only guards who had the morning shift would sleep at night and the opposite for the night shift. It was a wide hallway of multiple little rooms with just enough space for one mer to live. The rooms had storage for their belongings and also a bed of anemones for the mer to lay on.
"All will be fine, Kook. Just trust the process." Taehyung winked at him before swimming across the hall to his room, entering through the door of seaweed that gave a sliver of privacy to the owner of the room.
Jungkook just shook his head and went through his own door of seaweed. He basically flung himself on his bed, laughing as the anemones below him lightly tickled his back as he laid on them.
"Yeah I missed you guys too." That thought somehow drifted to the prince. Park Jimin. He looked over to his collection of different colored conch shells and smiled.
"You think Jimin missed me?" He asked his anemones, who couldn't really respond. "Nah, he's probably forgotten all about me. He probably has way more friends on land than he had down here. And I'm sure he has to have a new best friend, huh?" It makes him sad, to think of Jimin with a new bestie. Someone else he could collect shells with, someone else he could make seaweed snacks with, someone else who would comfort him when he's sad, or kiss his cheeks when he was hurt. A someone that's not Jungkook.
How would he feel seeing Jungkook after all this time? Would he even remember him?
Jungkook remembers. He remembers all too well.
