" Next batch of Moonstone's, coming right up." A Red Pearl exclaimed. She pulled a lever down and multiple high powered hydraulic machines pressed down on a pile of dirt, soil, and a few key ingredients to make the perfect Moonstones. I was apart of that next batch. The process to create a Moonstone is a daunting one, but once finished, the process never fails.
Hello there, I'm Moonstone. Facet 2K7R, Cut 5XM. The Diamond I work for is Yellow, seeing as the others work to help aid in the battle. I am what earthlings call, a nurse. I help those in need and fix up cracked or shattered gems. My job is a difficult one, but Moonstones are meant to withstand pressure and difficult working environments.
Earthlings are so fascinating. I wish I could see more of them. But at the moment, I can't. White Diamond has ordered everyone to stay in Homeworld unless in times of need. Ever since Pink got shattered, which wasn't that long ago, White's been out of control. She's been shattering gems left and right. That's usually up to Blue's discretion, but now White's in control of that.
To me, this job is filled with a lot of emotion. Us Moonstones get to know a lot of people through the colonizations of other planets. It's a doubled blades sword. On one end, you may form a close bond with someone you meet and then the next minute they're shattered to bits. On the other hand, you can make a lot more friends then some of the other gems do around Homeworld. Everyone's tucked into their own little spaces on Homeworld, but not us. We live on the war zone.
I'm going back to work again, same old same old. And as per every walk to the campsite, there are the misfits. The gems with more a more younger attention span. Their names are Cherry Quartz and Ruby.
Cherry Quartz is a pink, salmon color. She has some poofed up shoulder pads, a top with a yellow diamond on it, and some heavy boots. Her gem is on her forehead, like mine.
And then there's Ruby, the meanest one. Her gem is located on her back, like some of the Lapis' we see occasionally flying through Homeworld. This Ruby is always up to no good. She's a prankster, as the earthlings would call it. She's also average height for a Ruby, which is tiny.
" Hey, look what the farmer dug up today." Ruby heckles, waving her fist around like a blaster.
" Looks like a dork flower to me." Cherry Quartz adds in. They both laugh, loudly.
" I don't have time for you two." I reply, with a stern look on my face. I usually don't look serious, I try to be helpful and happy. But these two gems don't make me happy.
" What's the matter, Moonstone? Are you a lowlife or something?" Cherry Quartz yaps. That ticks me off. I walk away, ignoring their other calls.
" Come back here, baby." Ruby heckles, she then makes a smooching noise. It sets me off. I start jogging away. Tears well up in my eyes, but I stop them from flowing. People try to stop me as I jog to work, but I don't let them. No ones going to stop me. Even if I'm a lowlife, I'm saving gemstone's lives. That's something to be proud of, not to be ashamed of.
I finally arrive at the campsite, a little later then usual. I only see one gem in there, another Moonstone.
" Hey, where is everyone else?" I ask her, putting a strand of my hair behind my ear.
" We started to load the trucks. " She answers.
" But that doesn't happen for another 20 minutes. Is it early?"
" What do you think, buddy?" She replies, putting her backpack on her back. She's Cut 5XV. She's apart of the last batch of Moonstones ever made, including me.
Sometimes I wonder how exactly gemstones are made. From rocks? From dirt? Sediments even? Who am I kidding? I'm just a Moonstone, I'll never really know. Unless... no, I'd never betray my diamond. She is apart of The Diamond Authority, if I ever did something of that magnitude, I'd be shattered. Stepping out of line can cost you a lot on Homeworld, even your life.
I grab my backpack out of my stall and head off to the trucks. On day one, training day, we picked our stalls and trucks. The trucks don't matter, seeing as they all go to the same location. The battleground. Wherever that may be. The stalls, however, do matter.
The stalls are split into two compounds. The first compound is for the more hands on Moonstones who fix corrupted and shattered gemstones. The second compound is for the ones who only heal other gemstones. I'm in the first compound with some of my good Moonstone buddies. Like 5XJ, 5XE, and 5XA. 5XA is one of my " best friends " as earthlings would call it. She means a lot to me, in a sense. She's trustworthy and reliable, just like a Moonstone should be.
We arrive at the battleground thanks to the warp pad located on the edge of the entire facility. It's a wasteland. It has broken swords, shields, and there are explosives everywhere. We aren't allowed to go any further on the trucks, so we have to go on foot. We all start to hike our way to The Station. The Station is where we work. It's a tent, only a lot bigger and less noticeable. We have special technology so that the dome is camouflaged with the surrounding environment. It's easy for us to see, because we have implants that allow us to see those sorts of things hidden from other creatures.
We're on planet 663, "Dusty Domain". It's home to savage gemstones such as Rubies, Agates, Quartz, and evening some Moonstones. There are some undercover gems we have there like a Bloodstone, a Quartz, and a Moonstone. So far, they've blended into the ranks. The Bloodstone is even second in command. Their plans are to infiltrate, and eliminate. They've done excellent work so far, but they haven't sent an update to us in 2 human weeks. Odd.
The troops are getting ready to deploy. We're at our station and awaiting further instruction. From the corner of my eye, I can see 5XA. She's at a station similar to mine. She helps corrupted or shattered gems reform, just like me. We have a power that can weaken a corrupted gem so they don't do much damage to the station. If we didn't, it'd be utter chaos.
The troops are deployed and they're running into the desert. In the distance, I see some of the " Scavengers." That's what they're called. The Diamond Authority, specifically Yellow, coined the name herself. I do say, such a unique name for these rejects. I've always imagined what it'd be like to be a diamond. To have so much power at my finger tips, command armies, command emotions, and command gem-kind.
There are explosions and loud sounds in the distance. Blaster fire can be heard above all the other sounds. It's chaos, and I love it. Some gems are already heading back, some of their gems are cracked and their body parts are mixed up. That's where I come in. 5XA starts working on one with their arm as their foot, and their foot as their arm. A Yellow Quartz comes to me and I see their gem is cracked, a lot. Nothings happened to them, though.
" What seems to be the problem?" I ask, politely.
" I've been cracked. Help me." She says.
" On it!"  I reply, quickly getting my supplies.
There is a special ointment that we use that stabilizes the gem and makes sure nothing else cracks. Then, we use our fingers to spread around the molecules inside their gemstones and make sure they aren't cracked. It works like a charm, and this is no exception. I see something on their back, however. It's the symbol of The Scavengers.
" Are you one of the spies?" I ask, grabbing their blaster they placed beside them. I hand the blaster to them as they get up from the bed.
" Yeah, we got busted. Except for the-"
A large explosion is seen in the distance. Hundreds of gems and pieces soar through the misty sky. The Yellow Quartz starts to tear up. I then do the only thing I can do, I hug her.
" They fought well." Yellow Quartz said, giving a salute. Many others did as well. I joined in. This was a new tradition we adopted after the rebel Rose Quartz attacked with one of her pearls. That damn rebel.
" I've gotta go back out there." Yellow Quartz says, running off. Many other recently healed gems do as well. The smoke from the explosion clears, and we see the catastrophe. What a terrifying work of art.
