"So what are some songs yow know on the violin? That are modern?" Dray taps his chin with a pen, while staring down at a notebook.
"Carry On My Wayward Son, and Dust in the Wind. Would you count those as modern?" I tune my violin.
We were in the Orchestra room after school.
"No, but they're awesome so we'll do those." He writes down the titles, "mind playing them for me?"
I grin "anything for you, Dray."
He chuckles, and I begin to play Dust in the wind. After, I play Carry On My Wayward Son.
"What time is it?" Dray glances at the clock.
"It's Three," I put away my violin.
"Oh! I gotta go! I'm catching a ride home from my dad, I'll see you Four-Thirty!" He dashes out of the orchestra room.
"Okay..." I take my violin out to my car and put it in the passengers side where Dray should of been.
He always rode home with me. Maybe he needed to retake that Civics test....but he would of told me..
I shrug it off and take my mind off it by blasting Hollywood Undead through my speakers and singing along.
~~
"Where's Dray?" My dad asks when I walk in the door.
"Umm...I dont know exactly. He just said his dad was gonna give him a lift home. He'll be here at Four-Thirty, though." I run upstairs and deposit everything in my room except my violin and run back downstairs. "You wont mind if I practiced down here, would you?"
My dad shakes his head "I dont mind. I love to hear you play." He smiles then returns to the kitchen where he starts making supper.
"Night shift tonight?" I get out my violin and tighten my bow.
"No, took it off since your sisters staying over tonight."
"Oh, yeah, forgot. And I also forgot to tell you I was gonna sleep over at Dray's." I attatch my shoulder rest then pick up my bow.
My dad's head appears around the corner. "Your sister will want to know how you're doing."
"If she wanted to know how I was doing she would of came a week ago!" I set down my violin and bow.
"Ray, please, this is supposed to be family time together-"
"Dad! You know for a fact that niether of us would count her as family! She's 'mommy's little girl' and always will be, and in this 'family', that's not a good thing. I dont know why she bothers to come over anymore, she'll be able to make her own decision in a week and might as well start now! I'm not even Nineteen yet, and I make my own decisions to not go over to mom's house!"
I violently pick up my violin and bow again, then start playing the fastest song I knew how to play. This was how I often calmed down after a fight with my dad, though we rarely ever fought like this.
My dad disappeared back into the kitchen.
~~~~~~~~
"Dray, mind if I just....took a nap?" I had told him about the fight with my dad and he was helping calm me down. We were sitting on my couch watching supernatural, Dray softly smoothing down my hair.
"Go ahead."
I snuggle a little closer to him and rest my head on his chest. His heart was beating against my ear and it was soothing to hear.
I was almost alseep when I heard the door slam downstairs.
"Do you even bother to shovel a path to the door?!? My shoe's are soaking wet!"
My eyes fly open, "I forgot! Dray, let's go over to your house now, please?" I beg him, afraid to be seen or even heard by my sister.
"Sure, grab your stuff." He grab's his jacket in a hurry, and I rush to gather somethings to take across the street to Dray's house.
"Ready?"
I nod, "let's wait for her to go to her room, then we'll sneek past and out the front door. She usually comes up here within Five minutes of getting here."
Footsteps echo through the hall then a door shuts.
"That would be her, let's go" I whisper.
We sneek down the stairs together, then dash out the door and across the street.
"Good job, Double O Seven." Dray grins, then takes my stuff and we head upstairs to his room.
I remove my jacket and toss it onto his desk chair and he does the same. Some papers fall to the floor from his desk and I reach down to pick them up.
"Oh! I got it!" Dray rushes over and grabs the paper from my hands.
"Oh, uh, okay..." For the stupidest reason, it stung a little that he grabbed the papers from me. He was hiding something and it was obvious.
~~~~~~
"Come onnnn, Rayyyyy."
I watch Dray hesitantly "I'm not sure it'll work..."
Dray was laying on his side on his bed.
Yeah, creepy right? But this was appart of his plan of making my nightmares stop. I knew it wasnt going to work, and that, as friends, it would be very awkward to sleep in the same bed. Not that we were gonna do anything of coarse, I wouldnt dream of it!
"It'll work! I promise! You'll thank me in the morning!"
"I'lll probably be on the floor by the morning."
"Just, c'mon. I wont rape you if thats what your worried about."
"I wasnt worried about that, but now I think I should be" I laugh.
He shakes his head and chuckles "ugh, I'm saying everything weird."
I walk over and sit at the edge of his bed, "if you try anything, I swear to god you'll regret moving here."
Dray chuckles "I wouldn't imagine trying anything."
I reluctantly lay next to him, but on my back so I'm staring at the ceiling, my arms laying across my stomach.
Dray smiles small and speaks quietly, "you're so beautiful..."
I continue to look up at the cieling, no emotion showing on my face, but my heart hammering in my chest.
"You're blushing," he teases.
I cover my mouth with a hand and laugh, my shoulders shaking.
Dray starts slowly laughing along, then his laughter gets stronger and louder.
I don't know why we we're laughing, but we couldn't stop after that.
Somehow I ended up falling off the bed, and lay curled in a ball on the floor.
"Ray..." Dray gasps for breath then shudders from silent laughter, "are you.." gasp "okayyy.." He's thrown into another fit of laughter.
"I-I'm finee.." I gasp for breath too.
"What's going on up here?" Dray's mom walks in to see us laughing our heads off. "Oh, hello Ray. That would explain it." Mrs.Shay chuckles. "I'll leave you two, then." She turns and walks back downstairs.
Our laughter slowly subsides and I tak my place next to Dray again. Laughing like that had really drained the remaining energy I had left. "My eyes hurt.." I rub my eyes and slowly closed them when they were too heavy.
"You can fall asleep if you're tired.." Dray throws his blankets over me.
"Mmm.." I mumble, to tired to speak.
He chuckles, then I feel his lips press against my forehead, "night Ray.."
"Night..."
"Love you.."
"Love you too.."
I couldn't remember when I fell asleep, but I clearly remembered that no nightmare's came.
